Set the Pi’s clock to India local time and test the exact playlist on the display: a schedule launches playback, but it cannot guarantee that YouTube will autoplay every video continuously or avoid interruptions.
Choose how the Pi will play the playlist

PiSignage’s documentation says its default player is Chromium in player version 4 and later, and describes MPV for certain YouTube streams. Those are PiSignage-specific details, not a guarantee for every player or installation. Check the version and test your content. PiSignage player and group documentation
A Raspberry Pi forum reply from 2019 suggested using cron to launch a browser with a playlist address. Treat that as an illustration of the basic idea, not current setup documentation: YouTube can move beyond a playlist or interrupt a long session. Set up a scheduled playback test
- Choose the playback route. For a simple browser-only installation, configure a kiosk and an operating-system scheduler or startup mechanism to open the playlist at the required time. For a signage interface, configure a playlist schedule in the chosen player. PiSignage documents start and end dates, a playback time window, selected days or dates, and multiweek cycles. - Set the clock and time zone. Set the Raspberry Pi to the time zone used at the display site in India. Schedule a test that will begin soon, then observe the actual start time. Product documentation does not establish every player’s time-zone controls or clock-synchronization behavior, so do not assume the scheduled time is interpreted as intended until you verify it.
- Open the exact playlist on the Pi. Check that the videos play in the browser or signage player and are available in that context. If you use an embedded playlist, the video owner may have disabled embedding; most age-restricted videos cannot be watched on third-party websites. Embedded playback also requires an HTTP Referer. - Check the schedule and screen separately. PiSignage documents daily screen on/off and reboot scheduling in group settings as distinct from playlist scheduling. A reboot schedule is not a playback schedule; verify that the playlist itself is assigned to the intended dates and time window. PiSignage group and playlist documentation
- Observe playback unattended. Watch at least one video transition and test a run long enough to reveal whether YouTube pauses playback or the playlist ends. YouTube says an autoplay “Continue watching?” prompt can appear after 60 minutes of uninterrupted watching on web and 180 minutes on TV. A scheduled start does not dismiss that prompt. - Test recovery. Restart the Pi, interrupt and restore its network connection, and confirm that the player returns to the scheduled content. A process supervisor or systemd service can restart a crashed DIY browser; follow an example for your OS release and test it. Understand YouTube autoplay and playlist limits
YouTube’s embed instructions allow autoplay to be requested by adding &autoplay=1 to the embed code after the video ID. This requests autoplay for the embedded video; it is not a promise that an entire playlist will play without interruption. Embedding can fail when the owner disables it, and most age-restricted videos are not available on third-party websites. YouTube Help: Embed videos & playlists

Long unattended playback needs a real-world test. YouTube documents its “Continue watching?” prompt after 60 minutes on web and 180 minutes on TV during uninterrupted autoplay; behavior can depend on the playback context. Check what the Pi actually displays rather than treating a successful scheduled launch as proof of continuous playback. YouTube Help: Why YouTube asks, “Continue watching?”
India-specific considerations: connection, downloads, and rights
For an online playlist, test the internet connection at the display location and check that your ISP or data plan suits the video quality you intend to play. No reliable general figure for Indian bandwidth needs or data cost is established here; consumption depends on the videos and playback quality.

YouTube’s offline-download information for India concerns downloads in the YouTube mobile app. Eligibility and Premium requirements vary, and the help page says some downloads may be available for up to 48 hours before reconnecting is required, with different periods for some content or locations. This is not a supported method for caching a YouTube playlist on a Raspberry Pi signage player. YouTube Help: Watch videos offline on mobile in select countries & regions — Android
If the display must keep playing through an internet outage, consider locally stored material only when you have the rights to store and show it, and confirm that your chosen player can play it. Do not assume YouTube’s mobile offline feature grants permission or provides a Pi-compatible local copy.

Common problems and what to check
- The playlist starts at the wrong time: Check the Pi’s clock, time zone, selected days, schedule dates, and time window. Run a near-term test and compare the observed start with the intended India local time.
- The page opens but nothing plays: Test the playlist directly on the Pi. If it is embedded, check whether embedding is enabled, whether the video is age-restricted, and whether the request includes an HTTP Referer. YouTube’s embed requirements
- Playback stops during a long session: Check for YouTube’s “Continue watching?” prompt, a playlist ending, a network interruption, or a browser/player crash. Test each condition on the actual device; the scheduler alone does not prevent them. YouTube’s prompt guidance
- The screen turns off or the Pi reboots, but content does not resume: Review screen on/off and reboot schedules separately from the playlist assignment, then test the player’s startup and recovery behavior. PiSignage group documentation
- The browser does not launch after a restart: Confirm that the autostart method matches your Raspberry Pi OS desktop/session and that the configured browser command exists.
