To schedule a 24/7 radio livestream on YouTube, create a scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then send the radio audio to it through an encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not create or keep the incoming feed running. For a continuous station, you need an encoder and a plan to monitor its connection.
Choose the broadcast structure that fits your station
YouTube treats the scheduled broadcast and the incoming stream as separate resources. The broadcast is the event and watch page; the stream is the feed sent by your encoder. A broadcast is bound to one stream, and a stream can be reused for multiple broadcasts. YouTube’s API documentation describes a channel with a 24/7 live feed alongside separate broadcasts, such as an interview (YouTube Live Streaming API: Broadcasts).
- One continuous station page: Use a continuous feed when viewers should find the station at one persistent URL. The encoder or playlist system must keep sending audio.
- Separate scheduled programs: Create individual broadcast events when shows need distinct pages, schedules, or promotion. Consider whether per-show metadata and replays matter to your audience.
- Both: Keep a continuous station feed and schedule separate event pages for occasional programs. These are different publishing patterns; YouTube does not prescribe one as best for every station.
Schedule the radio livestream in YouTube Studio
- Check channel readiness. Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Create → Go live to reach Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s guide covers creating and scheduling an encoder stream; channel access or feature availability may depend on your account (Schedule a live stream).
- Create the scheduled broadcast. Enter the title, scheduled start time, and privacy setting. Choose public, unlisted, or private according to how you want people to access the event. These are core broadcast details; scheduling establishes the event, not the audio transmission (liveBroadcasts.insert).
- Copy the encoder details. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key and enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says stream keys are like a password and address. Do not publish or share it; reset it in Live Control Room if it is exposed (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Configure the radio audio source. Route the station’s live audio or programmed audio into the encoder, then select the YouTube destination using the copied server URL and key. YouTube’s guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and explains that incoming streams are transcoded for viewer devices. It does not give a radio-specific bitrate prescription, so use the current YouTube settings guidance rather than assuming a particular audio bitrate (Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
- Test before going public. For a private test phase in the API lifecycle, monitor-stream preview must be enabled and auto-start disabled. In Studio, preview the incoming feed, check access from the channel and watch pages, and listen for clean, continuous audio before the public start (Broadcast lifecycle; Tips to improve your live stream).
- Start the encoder and verify the event. Start sending the feed, wait for it to appear in Live Control Room, and confirm the preview and stream health before beginning the scheduled event. Auto-start and auto-stop are available controls, but neither supplies an audio feed when the encoder is not sending one (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Monitor the transmission. Check that audio remains present and that the stream stays connected. For a 24/7 station, arrange monitoring and a way to restore the feed if the encoder or connection stops; the scheduled watch page alone cannot do this.
Decide on latency, DVR, and replay
Latency
Lower latency can help when you are interacting with viewers, but it can also affect buffering and playback smoothness. YouTube notes that low latency matters less when a creator is not interacting with the audience. For a music or radio feed without live conversation, prioritize stable playback over an unnecessary latency target (Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
DVR
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during the live stream. Decide whether that suits the station: it can help a listener catch something they missed, but it changes the experience from strictly live-only playback. Check the DVR setting for the broadcast in Live Control Room (Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).

Replay archives
YouTube Help guidance verified on October 3, 2026 says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted 24/7 transmission will produce a complete automatic replay. If an archive matters, plan separate recordings or shorter broadcast segments and check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on it (Archive live streams).
Studio scheduling or API automation?
Studio is the direct manual route for a creator scheduling an event. For automated workflows, developers can use the YouTube Live Streaming API to create broadcasts with liveBroadcasts.insert, create a live stream with ingestion settings, bind the broadcast to the stream, and manage broadcast states through testing, live, and completed. That adds repeatability and integration options, but also requires managing the separate resources and their lifecycle (liveBroadcasts.insert; Broadcast lifecycle; LiveStreams).

Copyright, monetization, and operating costs
Copyright and music rights
Before broadcasting recorded music or other programming, make sure you have the rights needed to use it on YouTube. Scheduling a broadcast does not grant music rights. YouTube’s copyright and live-stream policies can affect whether a stream remains available; check the current rules for the material you plan to air.
Monetization
YouTube provides ad and mid-roll controls, but automated ads require channel eligibility for monetization. A 24/7 radio stream is not automatically eligible and is not guaranteed to serve ads (Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).

Equipment and ongoing costs
The do-it-yourself setup requires a source for the radio audio, an encoder, and a connection capable of sending the feed continuously. A computer running a livestream encoder is one option, but the cited YouTube guidance does not establish a specific hardware model or minimum specification. Budget for the equipment and connectivity you choose, plus the time or systems needed to monitor a continuous feed.
Troubleshoot common scheduling and feed problems
