You can run an Indian classical music radio-style broadcast on YouTube by playing authorized local audio or video files through OBS Studio and sending the output to YouTube Live. For one file, use OBS’s Media Source with looping enabled; for a sequence, use its VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. First, make sure you have the rights to stream every recording: a YouTube playlist is not a substitute for broadcast permission.
Choose what you mean by “playlist”
This workflow uses files on your computer, arranged in OBS as a playlist. OBS can send that media to YouTube through an encoder. The official instructions cited below do not establish a way to rebroadcast an existing YouTube playlist directly, nor does access to a track on YouTube grant permission to retransmit it.
For a documentary or archival music stream, decide whether your intended broadcast is live-only or will remain available as an archive. The permissions for the recordings should cover the actual use, including the relevant territories and any retained replay.
Clear music rights before configuring the stream
Use recordings you made and control, recordings confirmed to be in the public domain, or recordings for which you have permission broad enough to cover the planned live stream and any archive. YouTube says music is safe to use when it is public domain or you have permission. A description or label saying “free” does not by itself prevent a Content ID claim (YouTube: Tips to find safe music).

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” If a rights holder has licensed your use but uses Content ID, ask them to add your channel to their allowlist; otherwise, an automated match can still disrupt the broadcast.
Check whether your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its help page also says the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check your channel’s status in YouTube Studio because restrictions are account-specific. See YouTube: Get started with live streaming.

Build the playlist in OBS
For one recording: Media Source
- Open OBS Studio and add a Media Source to the scene that will go live.
- Select the local media file and enable its Loop option if you want it to repeat continuously.
- Check that OBS’s audio meter moves during playback and that the chosen scene includes the source.
For several recordings: VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source to appear.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to your scene.
- Add the authorized local media files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence after its final item.
- Preview playback, check that the files have sound, and confirm the playlist advances as expected.
OBS documents both single-file looping and VLC playlist looping in its Media Sources guide. A playlist built from local files is the supported source workflow described here; it does not establish permission or a method for rebroadcasting other people’s YouTube uploads.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or manage a live stream in the Live Control Room and choose the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s stream settings into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public or announcing it.
YouTube identifies encoder software as one of its livestreaming methods and provides stream settings for the connection. Follow its current live streaming tips and live stream settings for the current interface and configuration.

Preflight the broadcast
- Preview: Confirm the Live Control Room is receiving the intended picture or audio presentation before going public.
- Listen: Monitor the stream output to verify the correct recording is audible and that the playlist plays in the right order.
- Check access: Confirm the stream is available with the visibility setting you intend.
- Allow upload headroom: YouTube recommends that available upload bandwidth exceed the stream’s bitrate by 20%. Check the connection against the bitrate you choose rather than assuming a home connection can sustain it.
- Keep the source running: With OBS on a local computer, playback and encoding depend on that computer and its connection staying active.
Monitor copyright and stream interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may cause the broadcast to be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated. If you have a license, make sure it covers the stream and ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID when necessary. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and respond to any notices in the Live Control Room.
