Use OBS’s Media Source with Loop for one video, or its VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for several. The playlist is local media—not a YouTube watch-page playlist—and the computer running OBS must stay on and connected while you broadcast.
Choose a single looping video or a playlist
| Setup | Best for | What to configure | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Media Source | One nature video | Add the file and enable Loop. | Simplest setup, but it repeats the same footage. |
| OBS VLC Video | Several local nature videos | Add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if you want a fixed order. | Supports multiple files and playlist order, but VLC must be installed for this OBS source to be available. |
OBS documents these controls in its Media Sources guide. Playing a YouTube playlist in a browser does not turn it into a live broadcast; OBS must encode and send the video to YouTube.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the footage
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 to livestream. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder setup guide for current requirements.
Use footage and audio you have the right to stream
Prepare the video files on the computer that will run OBS. Check rights for both the nature footage and soundtrack, and keep written records of permissions or licenses. Material being online or labeled “royalty-free” does not by itself establish that you may use it in a live broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the video or lead to interruption or termination; copyright or Community Guidelines strikes can also end a stream. Even when you have licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before going live.
Build the repeating scene in OBS
- For one file: In OBS, add a Media Source to your scene, select the local video file, and turn on Loop. Check the preview to ensure the footage fills the canvas as intended.
- For multiple files: Install VLC if needed, add a VLC Video source, select the local nature videos for its playlist, and turn on Loop Playlist. Keep shuffle disabled if playback order matters.
- Check the transition and sound: Play through the full playlist, including the last-to-first transition. Confirm that video and audio play as expected and set audio levels before the broadcast.
OBS loops the media feed for as long as the encoder is running. Keep the files accessible to OBS and avoid moving or renaming them during the broadcast.

Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the current workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided for the broadcast into OBS’s streaming settings. The key is an access credential: do not share it or include it in a public recording. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s reset control and update OBS with the replacement.
- Start OBS output and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check the actual watch page, including on a mobile device, before sharing it with viewers. If the event requires confirmation rather than starting automatically, select Go Live in Live Control Room after checking the preview.
YouTube’s live-stream settings guide covers stream controls and settings. Interface labels can change, so use YouTube’s current guidance if a control has moved.
Test the full stream and keep it stable
- Run through the entire playlist and confirm its order, audio, and loop point.
- Watch the Live Control Room preview for video or audio problems and verify the public watch page is reachable.
- Keep total streaming bitrate below your available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total bitrate; its streaming tips explain testing and monitoring.
- Keep OBS running, along with the computer and network connection. If the local encoder stops or loses connectivity, the feed can stop reaching YouTube.
Plan the length, archive, and playback expectations
YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours when they end. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable; do not assume an indefinite broadcast will produce a complete replay archive. These limits are described in YouTube’s encoder guidance and DVR documentation. Ending and restarting separate sessions can make archiving and troubleshooting easier, but is an operational choice rather than a YouTube requirement.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The VLC Video source is missing | VLC is not installed or OBS cannot find it. | Install VLC, restart OBS if needed, and add the source again. |
| The same video keeps repeating instead of the playlist | A single Media Source is in use, or its Loop control is enabled. | Use VLC Video for multiple files and enable Loop Playlist. |
| The playlist stops or skips files | A file path is unavailable, a file cannot be read, or the playlist configuration is wrong. | Confirm every selected file is locally accessible and playable, then test the full sequence before streaming. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS output | The stream URL or key is incorrect, the key has been reset, or the stream has not been started in the required place. | Copy the current URL and key from the stream settings into OBS; check Live Control Room and confirm Go Live if prompted. Reset an exposed key. |
| The stream buffers or drops | Upload bandwidth is insufficient or unstable for the total bitrate. | Test the connection, reduce the stream’s total bitrate if necessary, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom above it. |
| A placeholder appears or the broadcast ends unexpectedly | YouTube may have detected third-party content or applied a policy action. | Review the Live Control Room notice and YouTube’s copyright guidance; confirm that footage and audio are authorized and request Content ID allowlisting from the owner where required. |
