You can loop a local video in OBS by adding it as a Media Source and enabling Loop. For a reliable 4K 60fps YouTube stream, the used PC must sustain the encoding workload and the internet connection must sustain the upload bitrate with headroom; OBS opening successfully is not proof that it can do either.
What you need to check before buying or using the PC
Judge the actual machine, encoder and connection together—not a CPU generation, Windows compatibility, or a generic claim that a computer is “streaming ready.” OBS says compatible system requirements do not guarantee the computer can stream or record at a particular setting. Demand varies with encoder choice, output resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. There is no universal minimum used-PC specification supported by the available guidance.
- Encoding: identify the hardware or software encoder available in OBS and whether it can sustain the intended 2160p60 output.
- Sustained performance: test the actual video, scene and settings for long enough to expose overload or instability.
- Connection: measure upload capacity and stability where the PC will run. Advertised download speed does not establish usable upload capacity.
- Condition and price: inspect the particular used machine and compare its condition and cost; no specific PC model is established as best.
OBS provides an Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, but validate its suggested settings with a real test. OBS Project: System Requirements.
Set YouTube’s 4K 60fps encoder settings
YouTube Help’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends 35 Mbps for H.264 at 2160p60. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (do not exceed 4 seconds), and RTMPS for encrypted transport. RTMP/RTMPS accepts H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, and supports frame rates up to 60 fps. The 10–40 Mbps range listed for AV1/HEVC at 2160p60 is not the H.264 recommendation.

- Resolution and frame rate: 2160p (4K), 60 fps.
- Video bitrate: for H.264, 35 Mbps recommended by YouTube for 2160p60.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframes: every 2 seconds; never exceed 4 seconds.
- Transport: use RTMPS where available.
- SDR color: Rec. 709, 8-bit.
- Stereo audio: 128 Kbps; AAC or MP3 is accepted for RTMP/RTMPS.
YouTube transcodes incoming streams into formats for viewers. At 4K, its low-latency option is unavailable, so the stream uses normal latency. See YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Loop a local video in OBS
- Add the clip: in OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the local video file. Common supported types include MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM.
- Enable repeat playback: open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. Confirm the clip returns to its start after reaching the end.
- Consider hardware decoding: enable Use hardware decoding when available if supported by the machine. This uses the GPU to decode the file; it is separate from encoding the outgoing stream.
- Configure output: set the intended 2160p60 output and encoder settings, then check that the selected encoder and output are actually available on this PC.
- Connect to YouTube: create or select the YouTube live stream in Live Control Room and use its stream key in OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in a recording. Choose RTMPS when the endpoint offers it.
- Preview and test: start with the actual clip and scene, check audio and picture, and confirm the live preview and stream health before relying on the stream.
OBS lists supported media types and the Media Source options in its Media Sources guide. YouTube’s encoder and stream-health guidance is in its live encoder settings help.

Make sure the India connection has enough upload capacity
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the primary plus backup stream bitrate. For a single stream configured at YouTube’s 35 Mbps H.264 recommendation, 20% headroom corresponds to at least 42 Mbps of measured upload capacity; if you also send a backup stream, include its bitrate before adding the headroom. This is a calculation from YouTube’s guidance, not a guaranteed ISP speed or a claim about availability in India.
Measure upload performance at the actual streaming location and at times representative of the planned run. Other people and devices sharing the connection can reduce the capacity available to the PC, and upload may be slower than download. YouTube does not establish an India-specific ISP speed, plan or power-reliability figure in the cited guidance, so check your own connection and local conditions.

- A wired Ethernet connection between desktop and router is a reasonable option to reduce reliance on Wi-Fi, but it cannot create bandwidth your ISP does not provide.
- Do not treat an advertised download rate or a single unusually good speed test as proof of sustained upload stability.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frames counter and connection indicator during testing. A rising counter with a yellow or red indicator means the connection to the streaming server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate.

Enable YouTube Live before the planned stream
A channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of the intended run.

- Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Open Live Control Room, confirm the stream appears, and check its preview.
- Run a test stream before the planned extended broadcast.

Before committing to an extended loop, run the intended PC, clip, scene, encoder and connection together. Similar motion and audio matter: a static test screen will not reveal every problem in a documentary with movement, cuts or music.

Copyright and reused-content considerations for documentary loops
Only stream material you have the rights or permissions to use, including footage, music and narration. A video being available online or described as a documentary does not by itself grant live-streaming rights. YouTube may detect copyrighted material during a live broadcast; review the rights for every part of a loop before starting. Repeating a clip also does not guarantee monetization eligibility: YouTube’s reused-content and monetization rules are separate from whether OBS can loop the file.
Check the current platform rules and the specific permissions for your content before broadcasting. Stream status or technical success is not a substitute for copyright clearance.
