Before going live, confirm channel eligibility and content rights; for an unattended broadcast, choose a setup that can keep playing and recover from interruptions.
What a 24/7 prerecorded livestream involves
An encoder is the bridge between your recorded program and YouTube Live. It may be software on a local computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service. The encoder sends the selected prerecorded content to YouTube as a live feed; YouTube’s documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast model, but that does not amount to blanket approval of every channel or program.
Plan for two distinct outcomes: a continuous live destination and, if needed, separate archived programs. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise automatic archiving for a session longer than 12 hours. Test the archive behavior on your channel before relying on it.
Check rights and channel eligibility first
Confirm permission for every element
Make sure the temple has the necessary rights to all video, images, music, and recordings in the rotation. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may cause a warning and placeholder image, or the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rightsholder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Ask the rights owner about allowlisting before relying on a license alone. Verify the channel can go live
YouTube’s current start guide says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check the channel’s current status and YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before launch, as eligibility and enforcement can change.
Choose how the prerecorded program will be sent
Choose based on who will maintain the feed, how playback repeats, what recovery controls are available, network dependence, monitoring, support, and total cost. No option has a universal advantage for every temple.

YouTube’s encoder directory describes vendor capabilities; it is not a reliability test or a guarantee of uptime or suitability for a particular temple. Confirm product-specific behavior directly with the vendor before procurement. See YouTube’s encoder setup and directory.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, create a stream or schedule one. Set its title, audience, privacy, and other metadata. Scheduling can let viewers set reminders and gives the operator a shareable URL.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter both in the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or include it in material shared with viewers.
- Load the permitted program. Select the prerecorded video or playlist in the encoder. Confirm the intended order and how the encoder behaves when a file ends. The YouTube setup guide explains encoder connection but does not certify a particular playlist or restart configuration.
- Run a test before announcing a permanent service. Check video and audio, playlist transitions, the incoming preview, and what happens when a file ends or the connection drops. Confirm that the preview appears in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
- Start the encoder and monitor the feed. Watch the incoming status in Live Control Room. Assign a person or documented operating process to notice interruptions, policy warnings, copyright notices, and failed restarts.
Decide how to handle continuous playback and archives
For an always-on destination, the feed must remain active and the playback system must continue through the rotation. Decide in advance who responds if playback stops, the connection fails, or YouTube flags content. Test recovery rather than assuming that a loop or restart will work as intended.

If separate archives matter, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and inspect the resulting recordings on the channel. YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not make the same promise for longer sessions. A test can show how your channel’s Live tab behaves before you settle on a restart schedule. YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 feed alongside a second broadcast that can end while the continuous feed carries on; this describes a technical broadcast model, not approval of any content or configuration: YouTube Live Streaming API: broadcasts and streams.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The stream key is rejected or no preview arrives: Check that the encoder uses the stream URL and key for the stream created in Live Control Room. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The feed starts but stops when a video ends: Check the encoder’s playlist and repeat behavior, then test a full file transition. The YouTube encoder guide does not specify settings for a particular playback application.
- You see a copyright warning, placeholder, or interruption: Review the flagged material and verify rights. If it is licensed, ask the rightsholder whether the channel must be allowlisted in Content ID. YouTube may still interrupt a live stream when licensed content is not allowlisted.
- The channel cannot start a livestream: Check verification and whether a live-stream restriction occurred in the preceding 90 days. Review current eligibility information in YouTube’s start guide.
- A long broadcast has no expected archive: Do not assume a session longer than 12 hours will be automatically archived. Test a shorter session and confirm the recording appears in the channel.
- The stream drops and does not resume: Check the local network or service connection, encoder status, and the restart process. Assign someone to verify that the feed has returned; the cited YouTube materials do not establish a universal uptime figure or recovery guarantee for every setup.

Plan who monitors the broadcast
Continuous streaming still needs an operating plan. Name who checks Live Control Room, handles policy or copyright notices, and responds when the feed stops. The right staffing and backup approach depend on the temple’s network and local capacity; YouTube’s documentation does not provide a temple-specific uptime benchmark. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ technology overview points technology specialists to YouTube resources on encoder setup, captions, live-chat moderation, and troubleshooting, but it dates from 2022 and is not current platform policy: YouTube Live Overview.
