First enable live streaming on the channel, clear rights for every recording and composition, then configure the encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. A PC-based setup needs a reliable internet connection and a plan for outages; YouTube does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasts.
Before you set up the stream
Enable YouTube Live in advance
Verify the channel and make sure it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the intended launch rather than on the day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
Clear music rights recording by recording
Do not assume a folk melody or traditional style makes a particular commercial recording free to broadcast. The rights for the composition and the specific recording may differ. Confirm that your permissions cover the intended use, territories and duration. Keep a record of each track, its rights holder, the permissions obtained and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation. This is practical record-keeping, not legal advice.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, placeholder image, temporary interruption or termination, and a copyright strike can also end a stream. Even if you have a licence, the stream may be interrupted unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If a label or distributor controls the music, coordinate with it; YouTube for Artists recommends doing so when planning a live stream with copyright-protected music. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before going live.

Set up a 24/7 stream with a Windows PC
1. Prepare the playlist and visual
Build a playlist only from recordings you are permitted to stream. In OBS or another encoder, create a scene with the authorized audio source and a still image or looping visual. Test the full playlist order and check that audio continues cleanly between tracks. OBS is one software-encoder option; consult the OBS Help Portal for the interface and settings in your installed release.
2. Create the YouTube broadcast and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the stream and copy the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- Enter the server URL and stream key in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a secret: it connects the encoder to your broadcast.
- Start the encoder and wait for the YouTube preview. Check that both the picture and sound are correct before you make the stream public or start the scheduled event.

3. Choose encoding settings based on your upload
For a mostly static visual with music, begin with a modest resolution that suits the artwork and your tested connection. The right bitrate depends on the selected resolution, frame rate and codec as well as the upload capacity your PC can sustain. Measure the actual connection and choose a quality it can reliably maintain; do not copy a bitrate from a guide without testing your uplink.
YouTube’s current guidance recommends RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264 video with constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. For RTMP/RTMPS audio, YouTube supports AAC or MP3. Its advanced guidance lists stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. These are YouTube recommendations, and your encoder may present the controls differently. Use the relevant resolution, frame-rate and codec table in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance, then test with audio and video activity similar to the planned stream.

4. Test and monitor the broadcast
Run a test before relying on the stream. Check that the preview appears, the audio is audible and the playlist advances as intended. During the broadcast, watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and respond to warnings. A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to connect the PC, but the cable alone does not establish that your upload is sufficient; test the connection you will actually use.
Plan around long streams and interruptions
Archives are not guaranteed to cover a full day
YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. Do not assume one 24-hour broadcast will produce a single complete automatic archive. If preserving a complete recording matters, plan how you will capture and retain it separately, and verify the result rather than relying on a full-day YouTube archive.

A Windows PC is a single point of failure
The broadcast depends on the PC, encoder, power and internet connection staying available. A local outage or restart can interrupt the encoder-to-YouTube feed, and YouTube’s documentation does not promise 24/7 availability or automatic recovery for this PC workflow. Decide who will notice an interruption, how the encoder will be restarted and how the YouTube stream will be checked afterward. YouTube also recommends advance testing and ongoing stream-health monitoring; it does not guarantee that a local setup will reconnect successfully in every case.
