To rotate prerecorded hotel-room tours on a YouTube Live channel, use OBS Studio as an encoder: add one recording as a looping Media Source, or load multiple recordings into a VLC Video Source playlist. Send OBS’s output to YouTube with the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room, check the preview, then go live. This workflow is not India-specific; the same encoder setup applies to creators operating in India.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm live-stream access
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to stream. These are encoder-workflow requirements; mobile live-streaming has different requirements. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before preparing the broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
Check the recordings and the rights
- Have the necessary rights to publish the footage and every audio element. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the rights needed to exploit the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions
- Use recordings you are authorized to publish. Hotel footage can reveal guests, personal belongings, access credentials, or other sensitive details; review and edit it as appropriate. This is a production check, not legal advice or a statement of India-specific privacy law.
- Keep the video files available on the computer running OBS. The source setup described here plays local files, so the computer and the files must remain accessible during playback.
Choose how the tours will rotate
| Setup | Best for | Playback behavior |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Media Source | One tour recording | Enable Loop to restart the file when it ends. |
| OBS VLC Video Source | Several tour recordings | Add files to a playlist; Loop Playlist repeats the list, while Shuffle Playlist randomizes its order. VLC must be installed. |
OBS documents the Media Source loop control and the VLC Video Source playlist controls. Check the supported formats and source options in the OBS version installed on your computer. OBS Project: Media Sources
Set up a one-video loop in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and select or create the scene you want to send to YouTube.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Give the source a recognizable name.
- In the source properties, select the hotel-tour video file and enable Loop. Confirm the source appears correctly in the OBS preview.
- Check that the video fills the intended scene and that its audio is present at a suitable level. If the source does not appear or play, verify the file path and that the local file is accessible.
Set up a rotating playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already available; OBS requires it for the VLC Video Source.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video Source.
- Add the tour files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the playlist after its files finish. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want the order randomized rather than following the listed sequence.
- Inspect the scene preview and, for a playlist, test that playback advances through the files and returns to the list as expected.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup provides the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS’s stream settings, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as secret: it is the credential used by the encoder to send the feed to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the preview, including picture and sound. For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready to publish.
For the exact current controls and scheduled-stream sequence, follow YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Before a public broadcast, run a test and monitor the stream; YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing the setup and checking the preview. YouTube live streaming tips

Understand policy, monetization, and archives
Copyright is separate from monetization eligibility
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies protected content, it may warn, interrupt, or terminate the stream if the content remains. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
Separately, YouTube’s monetization policies address reused content: republishing material without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value may affect channel monetization. The review applies to the channel as a whole, and YouTube’s policy page notes a July 15, 2025 clarification on inauthentic content. A stream made from repeated prerecorded tours therefore carries a monetization-policy risk that depends on the channel and presentation; permission to use footage does not by itself settle that review. Plan around the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer broadcast will reliably produce a complete archive. If a dependable archive matters, verify YouTube’s current behavior and plan the stream length accordingly. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Troubleshooting common problems
- The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: check that OBS is sending to the URL and key for the intended YouTube stream, and confirm you started streaming in OBS.
- YouTube receives the feed, but the broadcast is not public: in a scheduled workflow, inspect the preview and use Go live in Live Control Room when ready.
- A tour stops at the end: for a single Media Source, confirm Loop is enabled. For multiple files, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video Source.
- The playlist order changes: check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled.
- A VLC Video Source is unavailable: install VLC, then check the source options in your installed OBS version.
- Audio or video is missing or wrong: inspect the OBS scene preview and monitor the incoming YouTube preview before going live. Confirm the intended source and file are selected.
- The stream is interrupted after a content warning: review the footage and audio rights, remove or replace disputed third-party material, and follow YouTube’s notice. A license may also require the rights owner to allowlist the channel in Content ID.
