To rotate prerecorded videos in a YouTube Live stream, use OBS: add one video as a looping Media Source, or add several videos to a VLC Video playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream with its stream URL and key, test the broadcast, and monitor its health. This keeps the playlist cycling only while OBS, your computer, and internet connection keep running.
Before you start: make sure the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and test access before preparing a long-running broadcast. YouTube live streaming tips
Choose how the videos should rotate

For an ordered program, arrange the playlist in the desired sequence and leave shuffle off. Turn shuffle on only if you want the order to vary. OBS documents these loop controls but does not guarantee gapless transitions between files. OBS Media Sources
Set up a looping source in OBS
Repeat one prerecorded video
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene you will stream.
- Select the video file and enable Loop in the source properties.
- Preview playback, including its audio, before connecting the broadcast.
Rotate a playlist of videos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. For 64-bit OBS, OBS documentation specifies installing 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Decide whether to use shuffle; it is off by default, so files play in listed order unless changed.
- Preview the full sequence, checking that every file plays with the intended picture and sound.
Looping controls playback at the source. It does not keep OBS open, maintain your internet connection, or ensure YouTube remains connected.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live, then select an existing stream or create one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings.
- Keep the stream key private: it is the credential that connects the encoder to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS and confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room before making the stream public or relying on it.

Choose encoding settings and check stream health
Set resolution and frame rate to suit the video and the upload capacity you can sustain. YouTube recommends RTMPS and provides the following encoder bitrate recommendations; they are not guarantees that a particular connection can hold those rates. The codec changes the recommended bitrate.

These figures are YouTube Help recommendations in its encoder settings table, checked in 2026. YouTube automatically detects encoder settings in Live Control Room and transcodes the live stream for viewers. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Test with representative motion and audio before a long or public broadcast.
- Check that the event is accessible to its intended audience and that the preview looks and sounds right.
- Monitor stream health and audio and video quality while broadcasting; a successful initial preview does not guarantee an uninterrupted run.

Plan for interruptions and YouTube archives
A local OBS playlist depends on a running computer, OBS, and a working connection to YouTube. A playlist can continue to loop locally while the broadcast itself is interrupted, so check both OBS playback and Live Control Room stream health when diagnosing an outage.
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce one complete archive. If a complete recording matters, plan a separate recording and archive strategy, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before depending on archives for streams lasting 12 hours or more. Troubleshooting common problems
