Editing a YouTube playlist changes its items or their order; it does not, according to YouTube’s instructions, replace the video that Switchboard Live is receiving in an active broadcast. To change what is on air, use the encoder or playout system supplying the feed.
Identify what needs to change

YouTube’s playlist controls let you reorder items or remove a video from the playlist. These actions change playlist membership or order—not the program being delivered by a separate encoder. YouTube’s playlist instructions do not say that editing a playlist changes an already-running broadcast.
The active video in the live program
Switchboard describes its service as a multistreaming platform. Its FAQ says prerecorded video must be supplied by an encoder that supports it; Switchboard does not store prerecorded videos. So if the wrong recording is on air, locate the encoder or playout system generating the incoming feed and use that system’s documented controls to change its source or queue. Change the playlist or on-air source
- Check where the unwanted video appears. Determine whether it is an item in the public YouTube playlist or in the active queue or source in your encoder or playout system. Switchboard’s YouTube setup guide tells operators to confirm that video is visible in the confidence monitor and that the receiving indicator is green before going live: Connecting YouTube to Switchboard Connect.
- For a public YouTube playlist, edit it on YouTube. On a computer, open the playlist. Drag a video to change its position, or select More beside the video and choose Remove from . Check the playlist afterward. The instructions cover the playlist itself, not a separate live encoder feed. YouTube does not specify when an already-open viewer’s page will refresh.
- For the live program, change the source in the system feeding Switchboard. Identify the encoder or playout service and follow its procedure for replacing the source or changing the active queue. Switchboard’s documentation does not provide one universal method for controlling every encoder while live.
- Verify the result. Check the source system’s preview or output, then—where practical—check the live destination from a separate viewer. The cutover timing and whether it causes an interruption depend on the encoder or playout service; there is no general Switchboard guarantee of an immediate, uninterrupted replacement.
What Switchboard’s live controls change
Switchboard documents editing stream titles and descriptions while live for supported destinations, including YouTube. Those are metadata controls; they do not replace the incoming video source or edit the contents of a YouTube playlist. See How to Add a Stream Title and Description to Your Live Videos.

If the event is scheduled but not live
For an upcoming event, Switchboard documents editing event details and destinations through its Events manager or workflow. Removing a destination such as YouTube can permanently delete that destination’s public event page. Shared promotional links then break, and people who selected “Notify Me” will no longer be subscribed. This is a scheduled-event change, not a way to replace video in a running feed.
