To publish an edited video on YouTube, export it as a video file and upload that file in YouTube Studio. Then add the video details, complete the audience declaration, review YouTube’s checks, and choose whether it should be private, unlisted, public, or scheduled. Some editors also offer direct publishing to YouTube, but that option and its controls vary by editor; the exported-file workflow is the dependable general route.
Choose how to send the video to YouTube

Adobe documents both file export and direct YouTube publishing in Premiere, but the direct option is editor-specific. The steps below use the file route so they apply broadly.
Prepare and export the finished edit
Review the sequence
Watch the whole sequence before exporting. Check framing throughout, listen for audio problems, and inspect the final frame so the video does not end abruptly or contain an unintended blank frame. In Premiere, Adobe’s documented export path is to select the sequence in the Timeline, choose File > Export > Media, select a destination, and use the preview to scrub through and check how the video fits the frame. These menu names are specific to Premiere.
Use settings suited to the source
For a typical online video, Adobe recommends H.264. In Premiere, its current workflow offers export presets; Match Source – Adaptive High Bitrate is identified as a quick, high-quality option. Adobe’s YouTube-specific Premiere guidance recommends an MP4 using H.264, a frame size appropriate to the source and intended output, the source frame rate and aspect ratio, progressive field order, and AAC stereo audio at 48 kHz.

- Resolution and shape: Preserve the source aspect ratio and choose a frame size appropriate to the material. YouTube accommodates vertical, square, and horizontal video; do not add black side bars to a vertical video just to make it fit a horizontal frame.
- Frame rate: Match the source where practical rather than changing it without a reason.
- Bitrate: Adobe’s Premiere YouTube guide gives 8 Mbps and 45 Mbps for 4K as example target bitrates. These are illustrative recommendations in that guide, not a universal requirement for every video or encoder.
- Audio: Adobe’s guide specifies AAC stereo at 48 kHz for the described export.
Export to a location you can find, and confirm the resulting file plays correctly before uploading. Adobe’s recommendations are tied to its Premiere guidance; other editors may label equivalent controls differently.
Upload the exported file in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create > Upload videos, then choose the exported file. YouTube’s current help page says Studio can accept up to 15 uploads at a time.
- Open Edit for the upload and complete its details. Uploading transfers the file to YouTube; it does not by itself make the video public.
Complete the video details and audience setting
Give viewers enough information to identify the video and decide whether to watch it. YouTube’s current upload help page lists a 100-character title limit and a 5,000-character description limit.

- Title and description: Use an accurate title and describe the documentary or subject clearly.
- Thumbnail and playlist: Add a thumbnail and place the video in a playlist if that helps viewers find related work.
- Audience: Answer whether the video is made for kids. This audience declaration is a required part of the upload flow; answer based on the video’s intended audience.
- Other settings: Depending on the video, review age restriction, language and caption certification, tags, category, subtitles, comments, license, and distribution.
YouTube says tags generally have a minimal role in discovery, except that they can help with common misspellings. They are not a substitute for a clear title, description, or thumbnail.
Review captions, video elements, and checks
Add subtitles or captions if available and useful. Cards and end screens can also be added where the video is eligible; YouTube’s current upload help page says a video must be at least 25 seconds long to add an end screen.

YouTube’s copyright check searches for copyrighted material. It runs in the background and can continue after publication, so a result shown before publishing is not necessarily final. A passed check is not legal clearance or a guarantee that no claim or later action will occur. YouTube also runs likeness detection during Checks; that detection does not restrict visibility, although later policy violations may lead to removal.
Choose visibility and publish or schedule

Select the intended visibility in Studio and review the changes before saving. A public video can be set as an instant Premiere. If you leave the upload flow before choosing visibility, YouTube warns that the video remains private. The upload date and the public publication date can differ when you upload privately or unlisted and make the video public later.

Allow time for processing if you have a release deadline. YouTube processes the video to the highest resolution available; HD and 4K processing can take longer depending on the video’s quality, length, format, and traffic.
