If the playlist has no duplicates but its order feels monotonous, enable shuffle if the service offers it. Shuffle changes order; it does not necessarily guarantee that the same item cannot play twice in a row.
First identify where the repeat occurs: a viewer’s YouTube repeat control affects that viewer’s playback, not the playlist being sent to your live broadcast.
Find out which kind of repeat you are seeing
A repeat in the live broadcast
Check the cloud playout service’s current or next item display, if it provides one, and compare it with the live output. If the service itself has returned to the same playlist item, investigate its playlist entries and playback order.
A repeat on one viewer’s screen
If the cloud service advances normally but one viewer sees a video or playlist looping, check the repeat control in that viewer’s YouTube player. YouTube documents repeat controls for computers, mobile devices, TVs, and consoles. This viewer-side setting does not edit the broadcaster’s cloud playlist. Audit the cloud playlist and choose the right behavior
Remove unintended duplicate entries
Search the full playlist for repeated titles or files, including entries that are not next to each other. A repeated item may be listed twice even when the sequence appears to be playing correctly. Remove only entries that are accidental; retaining a repeat can be intentional for ambient or 24/7 programming.
In the documented playout.video playlist example, items play from top to bottom, and the same video can be added more than once. Those are provider-specific details, not universal rules for every cloud service. Check your provider’s own playlist documentation and active entries.

Use shuffle for variety, not as a no-repeat guarantee
If the entries are correct but the same order feels repetitive, turn on shuffle if your service supports it. In playout.video’s documented implementation, shuffle changes the order after each loop pass. Its public documentation does not promise a cooldown period or prevent an item from being selected again immediately. Check whether your provider offers a separate history, cooldown, or explicit no-repeat control before relying on one.
Understand what looping does
A looping playlist starts again after its final item, which is how a cloud 24/7 setup can maintain continuous playback. Looping the sequence does not mean every item is unique forever. See the provider’s cloud 24/7 setup documentation.

Apply the fix and verify it
- Check the active playlist. Open the playlist or current/next-item view in your cloud playout service. Confirm whether the repeated item is present more than once.
- Remove accidental copies. Delete unintended duplicates, then review the full order so you do not remove a legitimate repeat.
- Choose fixed order or shuffle. Keep the order if programming sequence matters. Use shuffle if variety matters more, while treating it as randomization rather than a guaranteed no-repeat rule.
- Wait for the next transition. In playout.video, playlist changes take effect at the next video transition. Other services may apply changes differently, so consult their instructions.
- Confirm the result. Watch the next transition and compare the live output with the active playlist. If only one viewer still sees a loop while the playlist advances, check that viewer’s YouTube repeat control.
Why changing YouTube stream settings may not fix the playlist
YouTube’s encoder setup explains how an encoder sends a server URL and stream key, while its Live Streaming API overview distinguishes the watchable broadcast from the stream resource used to transmit audio and video. These sources describe broadcast transmission; they do not document a YouTube Studio setting for deduplicating a third-party cloud playout playlist. If the repeated item is in the cloud service’s sequence, make the change there rather than looking for a YouTube player or encoder setting.
For a 24/7 YouTube stream, also make sure you have the rights to broadcast every selected video and its audio. A playlist fix changes sequencing, not copyright permissions.

Common problems and fixes
- The same title appears twice in the playlist: remove the unintended duplicate and verify the next transition.
- The playlist has no duplicates, but the sequence feels repetitive: try shuffle if available; do not assume it prevents adjacent repeats.
- The cloud playlist advances, but one person sees a loop: check repeat in that viewer’s YouTube player.
- A playlist edit has not appeared on the live output: check when your provider applies edits. For playout.video, changes take effect at the next video transition.
- You cannot find a no-repeat setting: consult the provider’s documentation or support. Do not assume shuffle, looping, or a YouTube stream-key setting provides a cooldown.
