The familiar informal version of the Pocky Game is played by two willing people nibbling one Pocky stick from opposite ends. Before starting, agree on how the round ends: there is no established official rule or universal winner. Either player can decline or stop at any time.
How to play the Pocky Game
- Choose a stick. Use one intact Pocky stick. Check its package for ingredients and allergen information before sharing it.
- Ask your partner. Make sure the other person wants to play. The game brings players close face-to-face, so participation should be voluntary.
- Agree on an ending. Decide before the round whether it ends if someone stops, the stick breaks, or you reach the middle. These are possible house rules, not official rules.
- Take opposite ends. Each player holds one end of the same stick.
- Start together. Count down, then begin nibbling toward the center.
- Go at a comfortable pace. Don’t pressure your partner to continue or get closer than they want.
- Finish by your agreed rule. Stop when that condition is met; either player may also stop at any time.
- Handle the remainder sensibly. Eat the rest only if both players are comfortable doing so, or dispose of it. Wash your hands after handling shared food.
This describes a common informal way to play, not a standardized game. The one-stick, opposite-ends version is documented in a first-person account, but no universal rule set or winner is established.
Check the package and respect food allergies
Product ingredients and packaging can vary. Read the specific package you have rather than relying on a general description. Pocky’s FAQ notes that some products may be made in facilities that use peanuts and almonds; if the label does not answer an allergy question, contact the manufacturer.
Ezaki Glico’s instructions for its separate Pocky-based activity, GLICODE, recommend washing hands and placing Pocky on a clean, food-suitable surface. The company also says the allergen information on that page applies to the products pictured and that packaging or ingredients may vary.

Don’t confuse the Pocky Game with GLICODE
GLICODE is Ezaki Glico’s coding activity that uses Pocky and has its own instructions. It is separate from the informal two-person game described here. Pocky itself is a chocolate-covered biscuit stick; Glico says it launched in Japan in 1966 and that its name was inspired by the snapping sound made when eating the sticks.
