A replay published after a live event is a regular channel video; it does not automatically become a live stream or loop on its own.
This guide focuses on creators in India setting up a continuous rebroadcast. YouTube’s platform requirements apply generally; they do not establish a blanket India-specific license for every kind of event footage.
Replay video or continuous YouTube Live stream?
These are two different things. After a live stream ends, a channel may post a replay or highlights as a video on the channel. To show prerecorded footage continuously under a live broadcast, you need to send that footage through a live encoder to YouTube Live.
For the creator workflow below, the video file plays repeatedly in OBS while OBS sends a live feed to YouTube. The YouTube stream is the broadcast; the local file is its source.

Check YouTube eligibility and event rights first
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says live streamers must be at least 16. For a first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete setup well before the planned broadcast. Clear every part of the replay
Use footage, music, and other material you have the right to rebroadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. It can issue a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed content may be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s live-stream terms also require providers to have the necessary rights and comply with applicable laws and territorial regulatory requirements. The platform guidance cited here does not specify which Indian licenses or permissions apply to a particular event. Confirm rights and any permissions relevant to your footage and circumstances rather than assuming that owning a copy is enough.
Prepare the replay in OBS
- Choose the source file. Make sure the video is stored locally on the computer running OBS and that you have permission to stream all of its audio and visuals.
- Add a Media Source. In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the local replay file. OBS Media Source supports local media files.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS will restart the file after it reaches the end, repeating it within the scene. This setting loops the source; it does not start a YouTube Live broadcast by itself.
- Check the scene before broadcast. Confirm the video is visible and that its audio is present at an appropriate level. If you use more than one scene, make sure the scene containing the replay is the one you intend to broadcast.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or open the stream you plan to use and complete any required stream details.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in OBS under its stream settings. YouTube uses these to receive the encoder feed. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Choose a sustainable output quality. Match your encoder settings to a quality your upload connection can reliably sustain. YouTube recommends RTMPS and advises testing before going live; consult its current encoder settings and live-streaming guidance and the recommendations shown in Live Control Room rather than defaulting to the highest resolution.
- Test before the event. Start an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream, check the picture and sound on the watch page, and review YouTube’s stream-health indicators. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health during a broadcast.
- Start the broadcast. When the file is playing and the connection is ready, start streaming in OBS. Check the YouTube watch page to confirm the expected live output is reaching viewers.
Exact encoder settings depend on the resolution, frame rate, and upload connection you choose. Use the current values YouTube shows for your selected format; choosing a higher setting than your connection can sustain can make the stream less reliable.
Keep the stream running and check the archive
During the broadcast, keep the encoder computer and its network connection running, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. If the encoder stops sending, the live feed can be interrupted even though the source file itself is intact. A dedicated hardware encoder is another possible setup: YouTube documents both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders, but the sources do not establish a particular model or minimum computer specification.

YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. After the stream ends, check the channel to confirm the replay is available; YouTube also notes that a channel may post a replay or highlights after a live stream.
