To pin a “comment” during a YouTube live stream, pin a live-chat message: open the message’s More menu and select Pin. The channel owner can pin their own message or a viewer’s message. You can have only one pinned message at a time; pinning another replaces it.
Pin a message in live chat
- Open the live stream or Premiere and its live chat. YouTube documents pinning for a computer and in the YouTube mobile app; the precise labels may vary by interface. YouTube’s computer instructions and Android instructions describe the chat controls.
- Find the live-chat message you want viewers to see. It can be a message you posted or one posted by a viewer.
- Open that message’s More menu and choose Pin.
The pinned message appears below Super Chat. Only the channel owner can pin a live-chat message; moderators and viewers cannot pin one. YouTube documents other moderation tools separately, but those do not grant moderators pin permission. See YouTube’s live-chat moderation guidance.
Replace or remove a pinned message
- Replace it: Use the message’s More menu and select Pin on a different message. The new pin replaces the current one; only one message can be pinned at a time.
- Remove it: Open the pinned message’s More menu and select Unpin.
Live-chat message or video comment?
Although people often call it a comment, the item pinned during a live stream is a live-chat message. Pinning a comment below an uploaded video is a different action performed in that video’s comments section. YouTube’s computer instructions for video comments say that pinning there requires access to advanced features. See YouTube’s video-comment instructions.
