To keep up with Super Chats on a nonstop YouTube livestream, open live chat and select Chat filter > Fan funding. On the YouTube mobile app, use Settings > Chat filter > Fan funding. This filters what you see; it does not change the chat viewers see or stop ordinary messages. Have a moderator handle routine chat review while you acknowledge paid messages with a brief thanks or a heart.
Filter live chat to find Super Chats
- Open the stream’s live chat. Use YouTube Live Control Room, the YouTube website or the YouTube mobile app.
- Choose the Fan funding filter. On the website or in Live Control Room, select Chat filter > Fan funding. In the mobile app, select Settings > Chat filter > Fan funding.
- Return to the full conversation when needed. Select All messages to see regular chat alongside paid messages.
The filter is a creator-side viewing option: viewers continue to use ordinary live chat. Super Chats and Super Stickers are available only on eligible live streams and Premieres when live chat is enabled; check availability for your channel and region in your account. YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers guidance covers the feature and its management.
Set up a practical workflow for a nonstop stream
Before the stream
- Appoint moderators and agree on when they should remove a message, put a user in timeout or hide a repeat offender.
- In YouTube Studio’s Community moderation and content controls, add blocked words if useful and choose whether potentially inappropriate messages should be held for review.
- Choose moderation strictness with the review workload in mind: Basic holds potentially inappropriate messages; Strict holds a broader range. A held message stays hidden if nobody acts on it.
During the stream
Have a moderator monitor the Fan funding view and flag messages the host may want to acknowledge. The host can give a short verbal thank-you or heart a Super Chat or Super Sticker without leaving the programme unattended. Everyone can see a heart; the buyer may also receive a notification depending on their settings. This division of duties is a practical workflow, not a YouTube requirement.
For context, YouTube Help says live chat generally allows up to 11 messages per viewer every 30 seconds, with a 200-character limit per message. Slow mode can limit how often each user posts. Live chat is available on watch pages, not embedded players. These are general chat rules, not Super Chat management limits.

Moderate paid messages using the same chat controls
Super Chats and Super Stickers can be moderated like other live-chat messages. YouTube’s documented moderator actions include deleting a message, putting a user in timeout, and hiding a user from the channel. The moderator guidance lists timeout durations from 10 seconds to 24 hours. Hiding makes that user’s chat messages and comments invisible to other viewers, and YouTube says the user is not notified. Apply your channel’s rules consistently; hiding is a moderation action, not a payment reversal.
Keep the content decision separate from the purchase. YouTube says deleting a Super Chat from post-stream history does not create a refund. If YouTube removes a paid item for violating policy, its portion of the revenue is donated to charity. See YouTube’s live chat moderation guidance for controls and policy details.

Know who can do which tasks
Standard and managing moderators can take moderation actions, but managing moderators have additional options. YouTube’s Android moderator guidance says managing moderators do not have access to Live Control Room or YouTube Studio. Keep Studio configuration and reporting tasks with the creator or another person who has the necessary channel access; do not assume a managing moderator can handle them. Pinning is also distinct from paid-message management. A creator can pin one message at a time; moderators cannot pin a message on the creator’s behalf, and a pinned message appears below a Super Chat. A pin can hold a short schedule note or instruction, but it will not put that instruction above paid messages. Details are in YouTube’s live chat pinning guidance.

Review Supers after the stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Supers to review purchase activity and the latest purchases; transaction information is available there. YouTube Help currently says purchases from the past 30 days can be viewed.
- For revenue reporting, open YouTube Analytics and use the Revenue section.
- Check whether live chat replay should remain available on the archive. YouTube says replay is on by default for stream archives and can be turned off.
YouTube Help currently says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees; YouTube says it covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. This is not a guaranteed share of gross viewer spending. YouTube also says chat activity can surface automatic messages for milestones such as a buyer’s first or tenth purchase. Troubleshoot common Super Chat management problems
- Fan funding is missing: Super Chat and Super Stickers require an eligible live stream or Premiere with live chat on. Check channel and regional availability in your account.
- You no longer see ordinary messages: switch the chat filter back to All messages. The Fan funding filter changes your view, not the audience’s chat.
- A moderator cannot change Studio settings or review reporting: managing moderators do not have Live Control Room or YouTube Studio access under YouTube’s Android guidance. The creator or an appropriately authorized channel user must do those tasks.
- A removed paid message is still not refunded: deletion from post-stream history does not issue a refund. Policy-based removal has a separate revenue treatment described by YouTube.
- Chat is moving too quickly: use a moderator, consider slow mode, and adjust held-message moderation or blocked words in Studio to fit the channel’s needs.
YouTube’s live-chat summary feature is experimental and may be inaccurate, offensive or inappropriate, so do not rely on it as a moderation record. See YouTube’s live chat features guidance.
