YouTube does not document a guaranteed way to restore a playlist’s exact active video and position after a reboot. The most reliable practical approach is to save your gaming reruns in a playlist, then reopen it and select the video you were watching. If you are signed in, YouTube usually resumes that individual video near its previous point—but that is different from restoring the playlist’s place in its sequence.
What YouTube does—and does not—resume
YouTube’s video progress feature tracks an individual video. When you select a partially watched video while signed in, it will usually continue from where you left off. YouTube Help puts it this way: “When you play the video again, it will restart from where you were.” That statement concerns the video’s timestamp, not the playlist’s active item after a reboot. YouTube notes exceptions: a video near its end may not resume from its previous point, and progress bars may take time to update. YouTube Help: Video progress bar
A saved playlist keeps a sequence of videos available to reopen. The official guidance reviewed does not promise that YouTube will automatically restore the sequence’s former current item and position after a full reboot. Treat reopening the playlist and selecting the interrupted video as a manual recovery step, not a guaranteed playlist-resume feature.
Save gaming reruns so you can reopen the sequence
- Create or choose a playlist. Open YouTube’s playlist controls for the reruns and save them in a playlist rather than relying on a temporary queue. - If you built the sequence in a computer queue, save it before closing the browser. YouTube says the computer queue does not save after the browser closes. Its guidance is to save queued videos to Watch Later or another playlist. YouTube Help: Queue videos on YouTube – Computer
- After reboot, open YouTube and find that saved playlist. On the playback device, navigate to the playlist and select the video that was in progress. If you are signed in and the video’s progress is available, YouTube usually resumes the individual video near the prior timestamp.
Check sign-in and progress if the video starts at the beginning
Video progress is associated with being signed in. Check that YouTube is using the account that watched the rerun. Clearing watch history also clears progress bars, so the prior timestamp may no longer appear. Progress indicators may not update immediately; YouTube recommends refreshing the browser or feed if the bar seems stale. These checks can help restore an individual video’s position, but they do not restore a documented playlist cursor.

Playlist repeat is not reboot recovery
If you want the reruns to start over when the playlist reaches its end, use the Repeat control in the YouTube player on a TV or gaming console and select the playlist-repeat state. YouTube documents repeating playlists on those players. Repeat controls govern what happens at the end of playback; they do not establish that the player will remember its current playlist item after a reboot. Why a device or app may behave differently
Queue behavior cited here is specifically for the computer/browser queue, so do not assume the same queue persistence rules for every TV, console, cast session, or mobile app. The practical fallback remains the same: keep the sequence in a saved playlist and select the interrupted video after restarting.

Developers embedding YouTube can use the IFrame Player API to cue or load a playlist at a specified index and start time. That is a capability for a developer-controlled embedded player, not evidence that ordinary YouTube apps retain playlist playback state across reboots. Troubleshooting
- The reruns disappeared after closing the browser: if they were only in a computer queue, YouTube says that queue does not persist after the browser closes. Save the videos to a playlist before closing it.
- The playlist opens, but not at the interrupted video: select the video manually. YouTube’s playlist documentation does not promise automatic restoration of the former active item after reboot.
- The selected video starts at the beginning: verify you are signed in to the account that watched it, then check whether watch history was cleared. A video near completion may not resume at its former point.
- The progress bar looks outdated or missing: allow for delayed updates and refresh the browser or feed. Progress is tied to sign-in, and clearing watch history removes progress bars.
- The playlist does not restart at its end: enable playlist repeat in the TV or gaming-console player. This changes end-of-playlist behavior; it does not recover a position after a reboot.
