YouTube supplies the live-stream connection; the encoder handles continuous playback. Test the full setup before relying on it, and plan around YouTube’s archive limits if you need a saved VOD.
What you need
- The Elden Ring recordings you have the right to stream.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- An encoder configured to play the recordings in order and repeat the playlist. The exact controls vary by encoder; YouTube’s platform instructions do not establish application-specific loop steps.
- A reliable connection and enough local storage if you plan to record a backup during the broadcast.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and a stream key to connect the encoder to your broadcast. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live stream settings.
Set up the continuous VOD stream
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Go Live, and set up a stream using an encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding connection fields in your encoder. Keep the key private.
- Set the encoder’s source to your recordings. Choose the Elden Ring VOD files and arrange them in the desired order. Enable playlist repeat or the encoder’s equivalent looping function. The names and locations of these controls depend on the software; confirm that the last video returns to the first without stopping the outgoing stream.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder output and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check that gameplay is visible, audio is audible and synchronized, and the transition between files behaves as intended. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and movement, then monitoring stream health and audio/video quality during the event. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Choose viewer DVR behavior. In the stream settings, enable DVR if you want viewers to pause and rewind while the stream is live. DVR is a viewer playback control; it does not make the encoder loop or recover its source. YouTube says rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
- Go live and monitor the event. Start the broadcast only after the preview is correct. Watch Live Control Room’s stream health and periodically verify the encoder is still advancing through the playlist. Do not assume it will resume seamlessly after an encoder or network failure; test recovery behavior with your particular setup.
Encoder settings and quality checks
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. This is general platform guidance, not an Elden Ring-specific requirement. Follow the current encoder settings guidance for the resolution and bitrate appropriate to your upload connection: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
- Check for uninterrupted playback across a file change and from the end of the playlist back to its beginning.
- Listen for missing, clipped, or unexpectedly repeated audio, including during transitions.
- Confirm that the Live Control Room preview and health indicators remain stable while the encoder plays the playlist.
- Make a local recording if you need a backup, and verify that the recording file is actually being written during the broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring the local archive rather than assuming it is being saved correctly.
Plan for YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The page does not state a publication year. If preserving the stream as a YouTube VOD matters, schedule separate sessions that finish before the 12-hour threshold, leave time to end one broadcast and start the next, and confirm each archive appears after its stream ends. Keep a local recording as an additional safeguard. Read YouTube’s live archive guidance.

Splitting sessions improves the chance of having an archive; it does not make a single uninterrupted broadcast continuous across the transition. Viewers may see a gap while you end and restart. YouTube also notes that very long streams can have limited or unavailable DVR rewind, so archive preservation and live rewind are separate considerations.
Copyright and gameplay footage
Only stream recordings you are permitted to use. Gameplay footage can include game audio, music, overlays, or other material with separate rights, so check the permissions that apply to your recording and any added soundtrack. YouTube’s encoder setup does not grant rights to the content you send. A continuous loop does not change that; review the rights and platform rules for every segment before broadcasting.

Troubleshooting
- The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key, and that it is actively sending output. If you replace or reset the key in YouTube Studio, update the encoder too.
- The first VOD plays, but the playlist stops: Check the encoder’s playlist repeat setting and whether the playlist is configured to continue after the final file. Test a full cycle before the public broadcast.
- There is a gap or a black screen between recordings: Inspect the source files and playlist transition behavior in the encoder. Preview the transition; YouTube cannot correct a gap already present in the feed it receives.
- Viewers cannot rewind the live stream: Check whether DVR is enabled in stream settings. Even with DVR enabled, YouTube says rewind functionality may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
- No YouTube archive appears after the stream: Check whether the session exceeded 12 hours and allow time for processing. YouTube warns that a stream over that length may not be captured; use a verified local recording for backup.
- The encoder disconnects or playback stops: Check the encoder output, network connection, and Live Control Room health indicators. Recovery behavior varies by encoder and setup; test it rather than assuming playback will resume automatically.
