To hide a finished gaming livestream replay, open YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live, open the stream’s details, change Visibility to Private or Unlisted, then select Done and Save. Choose Private for restricted access; choose Unlisted if sharing by link is acceptable.
These steps apply to a finished live-stream archive. If by “rerun” you mean a recording uploaded separately, manage it from YouTube Studio’s Content page instead.
Change the visibility of a finished gaming stream
- Sign in to YouTube Studio for the channel that owns the stream.
- In the left menu, select Content.
- Open the Live tab to find live uploads and archives.
- Select the stream archive to open its details.
- Under Visibility, choose Private or Unlisted.
- Select Done, then Save.
YouTube’s Live tab contains past, current, and upcoming streams. The archive’s Visibility setting is the relevant control for changing who can watch a finished stream.
Private or unlisted: which should you choose?

Use Private when you need to limit access to specific people. Use Unlisted when link-based sharing and comments are useful and you accept that the link can be forwarded. Unlisted is hidden from most ordinary discovery, not confidential.

If the replay was uploaded separately
A recording uploaded as a regular video is not a live archive. In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the uploaded video, and use its Visibility setting to choose Private or Unlisted. On desktop, YouTube’s instructions say to use the Live tab to find live uploads; a separately uploaded recording is managed as an uploaded video.
If you meant setting privacy before the broadcast
YouTube allows live streams to be Public, Private, or Unlisted. In YouTube Studio, use the Live Control Room to create or schedule the stream and review its privacy setting. In the encoder workflow, stream settings can be edited on the Details page. You can also set the stream type to Gaming. Those controls configure a broadcast; changing an existing archive uses the Content > Live steps above.

What to check if the archive is missing
- Look in YouTube Studio under Content > Live for past streams.
- YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not assume every ended stream will have a replay.
- Keep a local recording as a backup if you need to preserve the broadcast.
YouTube’s help guidance does not establish every account-specific reason an archive might be absent. If it is not in the Live tab, the existence of the broadcast alone does not guarantee that an archive is available to edit.
Effects to consider before changing an old replay
- Changing the source archive to Private removes clips made from it. Clips made from an Unlisted source remain available.
- An Unlisted video can still be watched and reshared by anyone with its link. A public playlist containing it may also make it discoverable in search.
- YouTube says Unlisted videos uploaded before January 1, 2017 were made Private starting July 23, 2021 unless their creators opted out. This legacy change may explain why a very old unlisted link stopped working; it does not describe ordinary recent gaming archives.
- Live archives are automatically uploaded by default according to YouTube’s promotion guidance. Creators can organize archives and highlights into playlists. Making an archive Public may help people find it, but it is not a privacy setting.
