OBS repeats the file; YouTube receives the live feed. The YouTube player is not what creates the loop.
What you need before you start
- A video file with fireplace visuals and rain audio together, or an OBS scene configured to carry both picture and sound.
- Footage and audio you created or have permission to broadcast, including the rain recording and any music bed.
- OBS installed on a computer that can remain on and connected for as long as you want the local stream to run.
- A YouTube channel that can create a live stream, and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
OBS’s Media Source accepts common video formats and has a Loop option that repeats a file when playback finishes. See the OBS Media Sources documentation (January 11, 2022).
Set up the loop in OBS
- Prepare the media. Use one file that combines the fireplace picture and rain sound if possible. If the picture and audio are separate, add both to the scene and verify that they stay synchronized and that the audio is actually included in OBS’s outgoing mix.
- Add a Media Source. In OBS, choose or create a scene, select Sources → + → Media Source, give it a recognizable name, and select the local video file.
- Enable Loop. In the Media Source properties, check Loop, then confirm the source is visible in the preview. For separate audio, ensure its source is active and not muted.
- Check the boundary. Let the video play through its end and restart. Watch and listen for a black frame, unwanted silence, a jump in the image, or a sharp audio change. Adjust or replace the file if the seam is distracting.
Looping repeats the source file; it does not repair an awkward edit. A seamless result depends on how the video and audio were made.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go live to open the Live Control Room, then create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the applicable YouTube connection method or enter the server URL and stream key, and apply the settings.
- Start streaming in OBS so the encoder sends the scene to YouTube. Check the Live Control Room and the resulting watch page for the expected fireplace picture and audible rain before relying on it.
- Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain that you enter the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder, then start sending content to go live. Interface labels can change, so follow the labels currently shown in Studio if they differ.

Choose how the loop will stay online
| Option | Where the file loops | What must stay available | Setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS on your computer | OBS Media Source on the local machine | The computer running OBS and its internet connection | Configure the source, enable Loop, and connect OBS to YouTube |
| StreamNeo cloud service | Uploaded video or playlist in StreamNeo’s cloud | The service and your YouTube stream configuration | Upload media, add the YouTube stream key, and start the stream |
The local setup gives you direct control in OBS, but the computer and connection have to remain available. A cloud service moves the encoder operation off your computer; it does not remove YouTube’s channel requirements or copyright rules. StreamNeo describes its cloud workflow at streamneo.com. These are workflow differences, not independent reliability or quality test results.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the fireplace-and-rain video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. After setup, the loop runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality; it includes 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. Your stream remains subject to YouTube’s policies and your content rights.

Copyright, live rules, and archives
Get permission for both the fireplace footage and the rain audio. Ambient recordings and background music can still be copyrighted. YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If you use licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.

Do not describe prerecorded ambience as though it were being captured live. Present it accurately as a live stream of prerecorded fireplace and rain content. A cloud host changes where the encoder runs, not whether the material is authorized.
YouTube Help states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Treat the live broadcast and the source file as distinct: YouTube’s API documentation describes a broadcast as a video event and a stream as the audio-video transmission resource. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.

Troubleshooting a fireplace-and-rain stream
- YouTube is live, but the image is black. Confirm the correct scene is selected and the Media Source points to a file OBS can open; check that the source is visible in the preview.
- The fireplace plays but there is no rain sound. Confirm the file includes audio or the separate audio source is enabled and unmuted. Check the outgoing audio meters and listen to the YouTube watch page.
- The file stops at the end. Reopen Media Source properties and confirm Loop is checked. Test through a complete cycle.
- The loop has a visible or audible jump. The transition is in the source edit. Trim or remake the video/audio so the ending joins the beginning cleanly, then test again.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the stream. Check YouTube’s notice for a content match. Verify rights for every visual and audio element; where licensed third-party material is involved, ask the owner about Content ID allowlisting.
- The stream stops when you leave. With local OBS, the computer running the encoder must remain on and connected. If you do not want to keep that machine operating, use a cloud workflow instead.
- The stream appears on the wrong broadcast or does not connect. Verify that OBS has the server URL and stream key for the intended YouTube stream. Treat the key as a password and reset it if it may have been shared.
Cost and practical checks
OBS’s local loop uses a computer and connection you already have, though it requires them to remain available while streaming. If your current storage is insufficient, an external drive is one possible way to keep local media files; it is not a requirement of the OBS workflow. A cloud option shifts the ongoing operation to a service plan, so check its storage allowance, terms, current price, and fit before choosing it.
Before leaving any loop unattended, verify the complete source cycle, the YouTube watch page’s picture and sound, and the rights for both audio and visuals. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted playback, monetization, or audience reach for this setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a fireplace-and-rain loop from separate video and audio files?
Yes. Put both in the OBS scene and confirm the rain audio is active in the outgoing mix and remains synchronized through the loop boundary.
Does YouTube itself repeat the source video?
No. OBS repeats the Media Source; YouTube receives the encoder’s live output.
