To keep recorded Baptist sermons playing on a YouTube Live watch page, create a live event in YouTube Studio, send it from an encoder that can play and repeat your files, then preview and test the entire sequence before relying on it. YouTube provides the live-event and encoder connection; continuous looping and recovery depend on the playback setup you choose.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; the person livestreaming must be at least 16.
- Recorded sermon files, with permission to stream and archive every element in them, including music, images, and third-party footage.
- An encoder or cloud service that can play your files in the intended order and repeat them. YouTube’s encoder workflow does not itself guarantee that a playlist will loop indefinitely or resume after a failure.
- A reliable internet connection for an on-premises encoder, if you use one, and a way to monitor the feed.
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Hardware is an option for higher-production setups, not a requirement for a recorded-sermon playlist. Choose based on file playback, looping, recovery, monitoring, compatibility with your equipment, and total cost.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you a watch-page URL to share before the stream begins.
- Choose the encoder connection. In the event’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot.
- Set up sermon playback in the encoder. Add the recordings in the order you want viewers to hear them. Configure repeat or looping only if the encoder supports it, and verify whether it repeats the full playlist or just the current file.
- Start sending the feed, then check the preview. Confirm the picture, sound, and event details in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
Build and test the sermon loop
Before announcing an unattended stream, run a private or unlisted test long enough to check the parts most likely to fail. Test using the actual files and playlist configuration you plan to use; successful playback of one sermon does not establish that transitions or restart behavior will work.
- Watch a file reach its end and confirm the next sermon starts in the correct order.
- Check whether there is a black screen, silence, or an unintended pause between files. If you use a slate or interstitial, make sure it is intentional and rights-cleared.
- Listen for consistent, intelligible speech and for music or other audio that may be too loud relative to the sermon.
- Confirm what happens when the playlist reaches its end: does it return to the first sermon, stop, or wait for operator input?
- Simulate or observe an encoder or network interruption if practical. Find out whether playback resumes automatically, whether you must restart the encoder, and whether YouTube requires you to start the event again.
- Check that the encoder does not expose desktop notifications, private material, or unrelated audio if it is running on a general-purpose computer.
Resolution, bitrate, and keyframes
Use encoder settings that are compatible with the source files and the current YouTube Live guidance shown for your account and encoder. The available evidence here does not establish one bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval that is appropriate for every sermon file and connection, so do not copy a number from an unrelated setup. If the encoder offers automatic or recommended settings, verify the resulting preview and playback quality with your own files and network before making the event public.

Protect the archive and end a session correctly
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube as the only copy of a continuous broadcast. Keep a local recording or other source copy of sermons you need to retain.
When a planned session is finished, end it in Live Control Room and stop the encoder from sending the feed. Afterwards, check the archive and confirm its visibility settings. For an ongoing loop, make sure the operator knows whether stopping the encoder also ends the YouTube event.

Rights, copyright, and channel policies
Your church is responsible for having the rights needed to transmit and archive all content in the stream. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must have the necessary rights for live content, including applicable music licensing rights. A church service recording can include material beyond the sermon itself: background music, opening slides, photographs, video clips, or a guest speaker’s presentation.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can cause a placeholder to appear, interrupt the feed, or terminate it. If you have licensed third-party content, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist; possessing a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Archived streams can also receive Content ID claims after the live event.

Review the channel’s live-streaming eligibility and applicable YouTube policies before launch. Do not assume that permission to show a recording in a church building, or permission to upload it as a regular video, automatically covers a continuous live broadcast and its archive.
Monetization is conditional
Depending on channel eligibility and settings, YouTube identifies ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. YouTube also says an embedded live player with autoplay has ads disabled, and some video types are ineligible for certain ad-break features. Treat monetization as a possibility, not a forecast of income from an always-on sermon stream.
