To run a 24/7 YouTube reggae radio channel, clear the rights for every recording and territory, enable live streaming on your verified channel, then send a continuous audio-and-video broadcast through an encoder. Test it as an unlisted stream before launching publicly, and plan how you will monitor interruptions. YouTube can interrupt a live stream for copyright matches—even when you have a license—if the relevant rights holder has not allowlisted your channel.
1. Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streaming at least 24 hours before your first planned broadcast, so do not leave activation until launch day.
Before building the schedule, confirm that live streaming is enabled and that you can create a test broadcast. Use an unlisted stream for setup checks; it lets you inspect the broadcast without announcing a public launch.
2. Clear the music before scheduling tracks
Owning a copy of a song, buying a download, or being able to play it elsewhere does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it continuously on YouTube. Rights depend on the recordings, territories and uses covered by your agreements. Do not assume that a general music subscription grants livestream rights.

Make a rights record for every track
Before adding a recording to the rotation, record who controls the relevant rights, what uses and territories are covered, whether continuous YouTube livestreaming is permitted, and how the rights holder or distributor will handle Content ID. Confirm those points with the people or organizations that control the rights; requirements can depend on your location, target territories and repertoire.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. A match can lead to a warning, replacement of the picture with a placeholder, interruption or termination. YouTube for Artists specifically recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music. Even licensed music can be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted by the relevant rights owner. Get the required allowlisting confirmed before the public launch, and keep the confirmation with your rights records.

Platform guidance is not a substitute for licensing advice specific to your jurisdiction. If a rights holder cannot confirm that your intended continuous YouTube use is covered, leave the track out until you have clarity.
3. Choose how the broadcast will run
An encoder sends the audio and video feed to YouTube. YouTube describes encoder streaming as offering more customization and control than mobile or webcam streaming, making it suitable for a managed music broadcast with repeatable visuals, labels or schedule elements. The encoder can run on a computer you control or on hosted infrastructure.

For a local setup, choose the machine only after deciding what encoder and visual broadcast you need. No particular mini PC model or minimum hardware specification is established here, so do not buy equipment on the assumption that YouTube requires a dedicated device.
4. Prepare the audio, visuals and encoder
Build a dependable broadcast feed
Arrange the cleared tracks into a playlist or rotation, and prepare the visual that viewers will see while the music plays. Keep any song titles, artist names and schedule information accurate. Test representative portions of the broadcast, including transitions and any changes in the visual, rather than checking only a single still image or track opening.

Connect the encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming setup and create or select the broadcast you plan to test.
- Copy the stream key from YouTube’s live-stream setup into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who do not need access.
- Configure the encoder’s video and audio output. Use YouTube’s current recommended settings for your chosen resolution and frame rate, and select RTMPS where the encoder supports it; YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP.
- Start the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives the feed. Check the audio, image movement and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public.
Recommended bitrate and other encoding values vary with resolution and frame rate. Use the current YouTube encoder-settings guidance for the exact combination you select rather than applying a guessed bitrate or reusing a setting intended for another resolution. The same caution applies to keyframe interval and other encoder controls: follow the current guidance for that encoder and output configuration.

- Start an unlisted test using the intended playlist, visual and encoder settings.
- Listen for clean, consistent audio. Check that playback continues across track changes and that there are no unintended gaps, clipping or abrupt volume changes.
- Watch the image for movement or planned visual changes, and verify that labels match the music. A static image may not show whether the feed is functioning as intended.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators while the encoder is running. If YouTube reports a problem, fix it and retest before switching to a public broadcast.
- After the test, confirm that your rights records and any required Content ID allowlisting cover the actual channel and planned use. Then schedule or start the public stream.
6. Plan for the parts of “24/7” that the encoder cannot solve
A continuous schedule needs an operating plan as well as a playlist. Decide who will notice a failure, how the broadcast will be restarted, and what happens during a power or network interruption. A locally run encoder depends on the local machine, power and connection staying available; hosted infrastructure moves those dependencies elsewhere but still needs monitoring and administration. No particular configuration can be promised to prevent every interruption.

- Assign someone to check stream health and respond to alerts or viewer reports.
- Write down how to restart the encoder and reconnect it to the correct YouTube broadcast.
- Test recovery from a planned encoder restart before relying on a continuous schedule.
- Keep the stream key private, and replace it in the encoder if you believe it has been exposed.
- Maintain a fallback plan for interruptions; do not leave viewers with an unexplained dead stream.
YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is platform-wide audience context, not a forecast of reggae viewership or a growth guarantee for a new channel. YouTube describes ads, Supers and shopping features for live streams, but access depends on current channel eligibility and feature availability. Rights clearance does not guarantee monetization approval or earnings.
