To recover a dropped 24/7 YouTube music stream, reconnect the encoder to the still-active broadcast using that event’s stream URL and key, then confirm the feed in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. That restores the incoming feed; it does not guarantee playback will continue at the last song. YouTube documents how an encoder connects to a live event, but does not promise a saved playlist position or that a completed event can be reopened.
First, separate stream recovery from song-position recovery
A YouTube live stream has two parts that matter here: the encoder’s incoming audio-video feed and the public broadcast event viewers watch. YouTube’s API documentation treats these as distinct resources. Reconnecting the feed may restore an event that is still active, but it does not prove that the event can be reopened after it has ended. Nor does YouTube promise to save a music player’s position and restart on the same song.
Whether playback resumes mid-song, restarts that song, or begins the playlist again depends on the player or encoder arrangement and its playback state when it restarts. Treat “resume from last song” as something to test in your own setup, not as a YouTube setting. YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams describes the distinction between the event and the feed.
Recover the stream without creating a new event by mistake
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Check whether the intended event is still active, whether YouTube is receiving the encoder feed, and whether the interface reports a stream-health or policy issue. Do this before changing the playlist or creating another broadcast.
- Reconnect the encoder or playback source. Send its output to the stream URL and stream key associated with the intended event. YouTube describes the URL as the encoder’s destination and the key as what lets YouTube accept the feed. Treat the key as a credential: do not share it publicly, and do not reset it without a reason.
- Confirm the event and preview. In Live Control Room, check that the video and audio are arriving and that the intended broadcast remains active. Only then tell viewers the stream is back. Reconnecting to the wrong key or event can send the feed somewhere other than the watch page viewers already have.
- Check the playback source’s state. Once the feed returns, verify which song is playing. If it restarted at the beginning or moved to another track, the behavior is coming from the player or encoder workflow, not a documented YouTube last-song-resume control.
- Decide whether the original event is recoverable. If the event is still active, restoring its feed is the path that may preserve the existing watch page. If YouTube shows that the event has ended, the official documentation reviewed here does not promise it can be reopened; use the available Live Control Room controls to create or select an appropriate event instead.
YouTube lets creators reuse prior stream settings, including a stream key, and offers auto-start and auto-stop controls for eligible setups. Those options manage aspects of the event; they are not a guarantee that an encoder will restart itself or that a playlist will return to a saved position. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers these controls.

If YouTube interrupted the stream, check music rights before restarting
Indian music is not a rights category that establishes permission by itself. Before broadcasting, verify that you have the necessary rights for the specific recordings, compositions, performances, and any visuals used, including the territories in which the stream may be available. This is not a legal determination about any particular catalog.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a live stream. In that situation, restarting the encoder alone may not solve the cause. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- If you have a license: ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube notes that a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, including where territorial restrictions apply.
- If you work with a label or distributor: coordinate with them before going live with protected music. YouTube for Artists recommends this for music channels using copyright-protected music: Going live for music channels.
- If the notice identifies a policy or rights issue: resolve that issue through the relevant YouTube or rights-owner process before trying again. Repeatedly reconnecting the same material does not address a rights-based interruption.
Test last-song behavior before relying on an unattended stream
Run a controlled test with the same player, encoder, playlist, and broadcast workflow you plan to use. Note the playing track and approximate position, interrupt the encoder feed in a controlled way, reconnect to the same event, and observe the result. Test a restart of the playback source separately from a feed-only reconnection: they may behave differently. Confirm both what viewers see and whether the existing event remains active.
YouTube’s DVR option lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue playback during a live stream. It is a viewer control, not a way for the operator to restore an encoder feed or save a playlist position. If your setup depends on returning to a particular song after a restart, document the tested recovery steps and check them again after changing the player or encoder.

Common recovery problems and what to check
| What you see | Likely distinction | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The event is active, but no encoder feed appears | The encoder may be stopped or using a URL/key that does not match the intended event. | Check the destination URL and key in the encoder, reconnect, and verify the feed in Live Control Room. |
| The preview returns, but the playlist starts at a different point | The feed recovered, but the player did not restore its previous playback position. | Check the player’s restart behavior and test the workflow; YouTube does not guarantee last-song recovery. |
| The event is no longer active | The broadcast event may have ended rather than merely lost its encoder feed. | Check the event state in Live Control Room and use the available controls for a new or appropriate event. Do not assume the completed event can be reopened. |
| The stream is replaced, warned, interrupted, or terminated after music plays | A third-party content match or another policy issue may be involved. | Read the notice, address the rights or policy issue, and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting if you are licensed. |
| The same key or settings seem to work for another event but not this one | The encoder may be pointed at a different event’s destination. | Match the encoder URL and key to the specific intended event, then verify its preview before announcing recovery. |
