For one video, add it to an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop. For a sequence of clips, use VLC Video and turn on Loop Playlist. Those controls replay the file or playlist, but they do not guarantee a frame- or audio-perfect join. Check the actual boundary in a recording or private test stream before relying on it live.
Loop one video with an OBS Media Source

In OBS, open the scene that should show the video. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Add a new source or select an existing one.

In the source properties, choose the local video file. Enable Loop, then select OK. OBS documents this property as replaying the file after playback completes; its default is off. OBS Media Sources documentation (dated January 11, 2022)

Keep Loop distinct from Restart playback when source becomes active. Loop repeats at the end of playback. Restart playback resets the file when the source becomes visible in the current scene; it is not the setting that repeats the file at its end.

Loop a playlist of videos

Install VLC, then in OBS add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist with the clips you want to play.

Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties. VLC Video depends on VLC being installed; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
The two approaches differ in what they repeat: Media Source loops one file, while VLC Video loops a playlist. OBS documentation does not establish that either method is universally more seamless.
Why the Loop setting cannot guarantee a gap-free join
The loop option controls playback repetition; OBS does not promise that every combination of file encoding, frame rate, audio, computer, and source settings will transition without a visible or audible pause. A pause may come from the file itself or from how playback restarts. The setting alone cannot establish which is responsible, so inspect the join in the exact asset you intend to stream.

If you hide the source during scene changes, check whether Close file when inactive is enabled. OBS warns that, when the source becomes active again, reloading the file can leave a small period with nothing displayed. That is a visibility and reload issue, separate from looping at end-of-file.
Test the boundary before going live

Run the video through at least one complete playback and capture a local OBS recording, or use a private test stream.

Review the transition from the last frame to the first frame. Listen for a cut, pause, click, silence, or other change in the audio as well as watching the picture.

Repeat the test using the scene transitions and source visibility behavior planned for the live stream. If the source reloads after being hidden, check the join and the return from the scene separately.

For a YouTube test, use movement and audio representative of the planned stream, then monitor stream health and review any messages. YouTube recommends testing before the event and checking upload speed. YouTube live encoder settings and testing guidance
Set up YouTube delivery separately from source playback
OBS’s Loop property determines whether the source repeats. YouTube encoder settings govern how OBS delivers the live feed; changing them does not turn on looping or repair a pause at the source boundary. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (not over 4 seconds), and RTMPS. It recommends 128 Kbps audio bitrate for stereo. Choose video bitrate and resolution for the selected resolution, frame rate, encoder, and available upload connection; run a speed test and test before going live. YouTube live encoder settings
Latency is not a loop setting. YouTube defines it as the delay between capture by the encoder or camera and display on the stream, and notes that lower latency may mean more playback buffering. It does not say that changing latency removes a gap in a source or at its loop boundary. YouTube live stream settings
Do not switch to HLS as a loop-gap fix: YouTube describes HLS as higher latency because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous RTMP stream, and its HLS guidance does not establish that it improves OBS source-loop continuity. YouTube HLS setup

Troubleshooting OBS loop problems

The video stops after one play: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For multiple clips, confirm the source is VLC Video and Loop Playlist is enabled.

The video restarts when you return to a scene: Check Restart playback when source becomes active. That property resets playback when the source becomes visible; it is separate from the end-of-file loop control.

The screen is briefly blank after switching scenes: Check whether Close file when inactive is enabled. OBS notes that a source may take a small period to reload after it becomes active again.

VLC Video is unavailable or will not play: Make sure VLC is installed and matches OBS’s architecture. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

There is a pause or click at the join despite Loop being enabled: Record and inspect the join, including audio, then test the same file and scene behavior in a private stream. Loop enables repetition; it is not a guarantee of seamless playback for every file and setup.

YouTube reports stream-health trouble: Treat it as a delivery issue to investigate separately from the source loop. Check the encoder settings, upload connection, and YouTube health messages; do not assume a different latency mode will repair the playback boundary.
