To loop a church sermon video from Google Drive in OBS, make the video available to your computer, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, then connect OBS to the stream created in YouTube Studio. For several videos, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Before the service, check that the file plays and its audio continues cleanly when it reaches the end.
1. Make the Google Drive video available on the streaming computer
OBS plays a file exposed to the computer; Google Drive is the storage and access layer. The most dependable straightforward setup is to have a local copy or an offline-available file ready before going live, rather than relying on a cloud fetch at the moment playback is needed. This is practical advice, not a tested reliability guarantee.
Choose streaming, mirroring, or a downloaded copy
| Option | What it means | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Drive for desktop streaming | My Drive files are exposed through a virtual drive and fetched as needed. | Online-only files need internet access, and Drive for desktop must be running. You can mark a file available offline; Google’s advanced guidance says Drive for desktop must still be open and the account connected to access streamed files. |
| Drive for desktop mirroring | A complete local copy of My Drive is kept on the computer. | Uses local disk space and makes files available offline. Google notes that video-editing applications work faster with mirrored files. |
| Download to a local folder | A separate local copy is stored outside the Drive virtual drive. | Uses local disk space and depends on the file owner allowing downloads. |
Google says Shared Drives can only be streamed in Drive for desktop. See Google’s Drive for desktop streaming and mirroring guidance for the current controls and details.
Make sure you have permission to download
If you choose a local download and the option is unavailable, the owner may have disabled downloads for viewers or commenters. Google also notes that a temporary restriction can occur when a file receives many views or downloads over a short period. Ask the owner to adjust access or provide an authorized copy; do not try to bypass sharing restrictions. Google explains these cases in its file download help.

Check the file before building the scene
Google Drive lists support for video formats including WebM, MPEG4/3GPP/MOV, AVI, MPEGPS, WMV, FLV, MTS, and OGG, but cautions that not every format works on every device. Its published maximum playback resolution is 1920 × 1080; that describes playback in Drive, not an OBS or YouTube live-stream limit. Internet speed and video quality can also affect Drive playback. See Google’s Drive video playback guidance. If a file will not play in OBS, confirm that it is fully available locally and use a format supported by your installed playback setup.
2. Loop one sermon video with OBS Media Source
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene that will feed the YouTube stream. In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source.
- Create a new source or select an existing one, then browse to the sermon video file that is available on the computer.
- In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. OBS documents this setting as making the file play again after playback completes.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and that the picture fits the canvas as intended. Use the preview to check framing and listen for audio.
- Let the video reach its end at least once in the preview. Confirm it restarts and that the transition does not leave an unintended pause or silence.
OBS’s built-in Media Source supports common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. The precise file that works can depend on the computer’s playback support. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.

3. Loop multiple clips in a playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, click + and choose VLC Video.
- Add the sermon clips in the order you want them to play. Leave shuffle off if the order matters.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties. Although OBS documents this option as on by default, verify the setting rather than relying on the default.
- Preview the playlist through a clip transition and the end of the list. Check both picture and audio.
4. Send the OBS scene to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream in the Live Control Room. Confirm the channel can go live and that the stream is set up for the intended service.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if available, or use the server URL and stream key shown for the stream in YouTube Studio. Enter the values in the corresponding OBS fields.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS and check the encoder preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, YouTube says to wait for the preview and then click Go live in Live Control Room.
- Monitor the live output and audio after going live, especially when the sermon video loops or the playlist changes clips.
Menu wording and live-stream eligibility can vary with OBS version, operating system, and channel status. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes its Live Control Room workflow.
5. Copyright and service readiness
Only stream sermon recordings and music that the church or channel is authorized to broadcast on YouTube. A recording being in Google Drive does not establish that the channel has the rights to stream it. Check permissions for the sermon, background music, worship performances, and any third-party video included in the recording before scheduling the broadcast. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream requirements in YouTube Studio and obtain permission where needed.

6. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video is missing or will not open | The file is online-only, Drive for desktop is not running, the account is disconnected, or the format is not playing on the computer. | Open the file from the computer first; confirm Drive access and connectivity, or use an authorized local download. Try a file format supported by the installed playback setup. |
| The file plays once and stops | Media Source Loop is off, or the playlist loop is not enabled. | Open the source properties and verify Loop for Media Source or Loop Playlist for VLC Video. |
| VLC Video is not an available source | VLC is not installed, or the VLC architecture does not match 64-bit OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check the Sources add menu. |
| A download option is missing | The file owner disabled downloads for viewers or commenters, or Google temporarily restricted access after unusually high recent activity. | Ask the owner for an authorized downloadable copy or for appropriate access. If a temporary restriction applies, wait and try again later. |
| YouTube shows no encoder preview | The stream is not reaching the selected YouTube event, or the server URL or stream key is incorrect. | Compare OBS’s stream settings with the values for the intended Live Control Room stream. Keep the key private. |
| The preview appears, but the scheduled event is not live | YouTube’s scheduled encoder workflow still requires the operator to start the event. | After the preview appears, click Go live in Live Control Room. |
