To make a YouTube Live product demo restart at the first clip after the last one, add the videos to OBS’s VLC Video Source playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle Playlist off to preserve the order. This loops video playback; it does not end or restart the YouTube broadcast.
Set up the playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if needed. The VLC Video Source may not appear in OBS unless VLC is installed. Match the architecture: OBS Project says 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Add the source. In the OBS scene that will show the demo, go to the Sources dock, click +, and select VLC Video Source.
- Add and order the clips. Add the local product demo files to the source’s playlist in the sequence you want them to play.
- Set the playback options. Turn on Loop Playlist. Turn off Shuffle Playlist if the videos should play in the chosen order. OBS documents Loop Playlist as the option that “Specifies whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files.” The documented defaults are looping on and shuffling off, but check the settings rather than relying on defaults.
- Choose what happens when the source is hidden. OBS’s visibility behavior controls whether playback continues, pauses, or stops while the source is not visible. If the playlist needs to keep advancing while hidden, choose the continue or always-play behavior if your installed version offers it.
- Test before going live. Record locally or run a brief test and confirm that the final clip transitions back to the first, the order is correct, and the audio and scene layout work. OBS recommends a short test to check settings.
If you need exact control over scene behavior or playlist settings, consult the OBS Media Sources documentation; labels and available options can vary by installed version.
Keep OBS playback separate from the YouTube broadcast
Loop Playlist controls the VLC source, not the YouTube stream. When the playlist reaches its last file, OBS can restart the source at the beginning while the encoder continues sending video. To set up the broadcast, YouTube’s encoder help directs creators to create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room, then enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder and start streaming from it. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview in Live Control Room and click Go live when ready.
To stop the broadcast, stop sending content from the encoder; for a scheduled stream, YouTube also describes using End Stream in Live Control Room. Those broadcast controls are separate from the playlist loop. YouTube’s live stream settings help also describes reusable custom stream keys and auto-start and auto-stop options. These do not replace OBS’s Loop Playlist setting.

Prepare changes before the live session
Build and test the complete playlist before going live if it is important that playback not jump unexpectedly. A 2020 OBS forum post describes playback restarting at the beginning after a user changed source settings or added playlist media during playback; that is an anecdote about one setup, not authoritative or current documentation of behavior. Avoid assuming a live edit will be seamless.
Optional alternative: Media Playlist Source plugin
For ordinary looping, OBS’s built-in VLC Video Source is the direct route. The community Media Playlist Source plugin is an optional alternative if you specifically need more flexible editing. Its listing advertises editing playlist items without restarting video, saving the currently playing file for OBS restarts, and selection and shuffle features.

The resource page labels the plugin version 0.1.3 and lists a 64-bit build for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its listed limitations include no audio-track or subtitle selection and no automatic folder refresh. Check the resource page and compatibility with your installed OBS version before relying on it; it is not required for a simple playlist loop.
