How to Loop a Playlist in 4K 60fps on YouTube Live

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

YouTube’s playlist repeat button loops playback for a viewer; it does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast. To stream prerecorded videos continuously, arrange the videos in a playback workflow that repeats them, then send that output to YouTube through a live encoder or a cloud streaming service. For 4K at 60 fps, YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends 35 Mbps for H.264, a 2-second keyframe interval, and normal—not low—latency.

First, separate a YouTube playlist from a live-stream playlist

A YouTube playlist is a viewing list: its repeat control repeats playback in the YouTube interface. YouTube’s documentation does not describe that control as a way to broadcast the playlist live. A live broadcast of prerecorded material requires two separate pieces: a playback source that plays the videos in order and repeats them, and an encoder or streaming service that sends the resulting live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup explains the feed and stream-key side of that process: YouTube encoder setup.

In this article, “playlist” means the source-media sequence you want to broadcast, not a viewer-facing YouTube playlist. The official guidance cited here does not establish click-by-click loop controls for a particular playback or encoding application. Before relying on any software workflow, verify that application’s current source-playlist and repeat settings; do not assume that YouTube’s viewer-side repeat button handles it.

Prepare the channel and the source videos

Check live-stream eligibility

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips before scheduling the broadcast.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Build and verify the playback sequence

  • Put the prerecorded videos in the intended order in a playback system that can feed a live encoder.
  • Confirm the workflow can repeat the sequence continuously, including what happens at the end of the final video and whether gaps or transitions are acceptable for your channel.
  • Check that each source is actually 3840 Ă— 2160 and 60 fps if you expect 4K60 output. An encoder cannot restore detail or motion information absent from the source.
  • Make sure you have the rights and permissions needed to stream every video and its audio. Live-streaming technical compliance does not establish copyright permission, and a stream’s eligibility for monetization is a separate YouTube policy question.

Set up a live encoder for 4K60

YouTube’s published encoder recommendations include 2160p (4K) at up to 60 fps. Its recommended H.264 bitrate for 4K60 is 35 Mbps; for AV1 and H.265, it lists a 10–40 Mbps range. These are YouTube’s guidance values, not a guarantee that every encoder, connection, or source will sustain the selected output. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

Setting 4K60 guidance from YouTube
Resolution and frame rate 2160p (4K), up to 60 fps
H.264 bitrate 35 Mbps recommended
AV1 or H.265 bitrate 10–40 Mbps listed range
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds
Latency Normal latency for 4K; YouTube does not offer the low-latency option for 4K

Match the encoder to your upload connection

Use a stable upload connection capable of sustaining the encoder’s chosen bitrate. YouTube recommends checking upload speed, but its cited encoder page does not specify a fixed overhead margin. Do not treat a speed-test result as proof of uninterrupted streaming: other devices and network variation can reduce the capacity available to the encoder.

Connect the encoder to YouTube

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings in the Live Control Room.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder, following the encoder’s current instructions. YouTube describes these as the details used to send the feed to the platform.
  3. Keep the stream key private. It functions as a credential for sending video to your broadcast; do not include it in screenshots, public tutorials, or shared configuration files.
  4. Start the playback source and encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before the public broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and monitoring the preview, audio, and video quality.

YouTube supports encoder delivery over RTMP/RTMPS in its general guidance. HLS is another documented ingestion option, but its transport playlist is not a mechanism for repeating your prerecorded source videos. If your encoder specifically uses HLS, YouTube specifies 1–4 second segments, TS format, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte ranges, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements.

Plan for long broadcasts and archives

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also automatically archives streams at 1440p and 2160p, but that does not remove the duration caveat. If your loop may run beyond 12 hours, arrange a separate recording or archive method rather than relying on YouTube to retain the whole broadcast. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup; its archive guidance is at YouTube’s live-stream archive help page.

Choose a way to keep the feed running

The choice is whether you want to operate playback and encoding yourself or hand continuous playback to a cloud service. A local software or hardware setup gives you direct control, but it depends on your playback system, encoder, power, and upload connection staying available. YouTube lists the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as verified hardware capable of streaming up to 2160p60; that establishes an encoding capability, not that the device plays or repeats a media playlist. See YouTube’s verified devices list.

For a cloud option, StreamNeo is #1 to try for this use: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. It is a YouTube-only service for uploaded videos, not a camera broadcast.

Troubleshoot common problems

The YouTube playlist repeats, but there is no live broadcast

The repeat control affects playback for viewers, not the live encoder feed. Use a playback source that repeats the media sequence, then send that output to YouTube with an encoder or cloud service.

The stream will not start

Confirm live-stream eligibility, verify that the stream URL and key were entered in the correct encoder fields, and check that the stream is active in the Live Control Room. Treat the key as private and replace it if it has been exposed.

The stream drops or the image becomes unstable

Check whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate and whether other network use is competing for capacity. Review the encoder’s output settings against YouTube’s bitrate and keyframe guidance, then monitor the Control Room preview and audio/video status.

The broadcast does not look like 4K60

Check the source file’s resolution and frame rate, then verify that the encoder output is set to 2160p and 60 fps. A 4K60 setting cannot create detail or frames the source does not contain, and the upload connection must sustain the selected bitrate.

The archive is missing or incomplete

If the live broadcast ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all. Use a separate recording/archive plan for longer loops.
