Keep the price large enough to scan, high-contrast, and away from YouTube’s on-screen controls. Preview the actual vertical live view on a phone, with its interface visible; YouTube does not publish a universal Live safe-zone measurement or minimum font size. Use YouTube’s Shopping tools for product discovery, and make the on-screen graphic do one job: connect a clear price to the product being shown.
Design the price graphic for the live phone view
Start with the vertical camera frame and the interface a viewer is likely to see. Keep the price and product identity away from the outer edges and likely control areas. Google’s safe-zone guidance recommends protecting important content from overlays, but it is general video-ad guidance—not a map of YouTube Live’s controls. Google also notes that overlays vary by format, campaign type, and screen, and that device differences can still cut off elements. Review Google’s video safe-zone guidance as a general reference, not a guaranteed YouTube Live margin.
Put the price on a stable, uncluttered part of the image. If the footage behind it changes, use a solid or translucent backing so the numerals remain distinct. Make the price the most prominent text; keep the product name and offer conditions subordinate but readable. There is no single source-established font size or typeface that works for every phone, so assess the actual composition rather than relying on a universal pixel value.
Check text contrast
Use WCAG 2.2’s contrast thresholds as an accessibility benchmark for the graphic: at least 4.5:1 for ordinary text, or 3:1 for text that qualifies as large-scale. These are text-contrast criteria, not YouTube Live rules, and meeting them does not by itself establish that a video overlay conforms to WCAG. When in doubt, aim for the higher threshold. See WCAG 2.2, Contrast (Minimum).

Use YouTube Shopping for product discovery
For eligible creators, YouTube’s live-shopping features let viewers select the Shopping icon to review tagged products. Creators can tag products before or during a stream and pin an item in the live interface. Available controls differ between mobile and computer, so check the current controls for the device you are using rather than assuming every option is available everywhere.
Keep the tagged item visibly connected to what is being demonstrated. YouTube’s product-tagging guidance says products should be featured prominently, used safely, and meaningfully related to the stream’s subject matter. Its product-content guidance also says viewers should be able to identify a tagged product and see its design or functionality clearly—not only in a brief, blurred, or obscured shot. Prepare and preview before going live
- Build the vertical composition. Keep important content away from the outermost regions and likely interface controls. Use Google’s safe-zone illustration only as a general production reference; it does not specify YouTube Live’s exact overlay positions.
- Set a stable text area. Place the price over a clean background, adding a solid or translucent backing if the footage changes behind it.
- Establish the reading order. Make the price the most prominent text, with product identity and offer conditions still legible.
- Check contrast. Use at least 4.5:1 for ordinary text or 3:1 for large-scale text under WCAG 2.2; use the higher target if you are unsure whether text qualifies as large-scale.
- Show the product clearly. Check that the tagged product is relevant and identifiable in the stream, and that its important design or function is not obscured.
- Preview with the interface visible. Check the full price on the smallest phone display you expect viewers to use, including likely controls and the Shopping panel. Treat this as a practical production check, not a YouTube-mandated test protocol.
- Finish product tagging ahead of time. YouTube recommends completing product tagging at least 30 minutes before a live stream for the best viewer experience. Some people already watching may not see changes made during a stream; the timing guidance is not a guarantee that every viewer’s display updates in a particular way.
