Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To keep a YouTube livestream going after a video file finishes, make the file repeat in your encoder. In OBS Studio, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop in the source properties. For a sequence of clips, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. The stream continues as long as the encoder keeps sending content to YouTube.
Loop one video in OBS
- Open the streaming scene. In OBS Studio, create or select the scene you intend to stream.
- Add the video. In the Sources panel, select +, choose Media Source, and create or select a source. Choose the video file in its properties.
- Enable looping. Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties, then confirm the change. OBS documents this setting as repeating the file after playback completes.
- Check the scene. Confirm the source is visible and that its audio is included as intended. Keep the source active in the scene being streamed.
Loop a playlist of videos
For several clips that should play in sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding a separate Media Source for each clip.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video.
- Add the video files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback returns to the beginning after the final clip.
- Confirm the source is active in the scene and check both the picture and sound.
The VLC Video source appears only when VLC is installed. OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes the Media Source and VLC Video options; labels can vary by software version.
Test the handoff before going live
A loop setting controls local playback; it does not, by itself, start or maintain a YouTube broadcast. YouTube receives the encoder’s outgoing feed. Its encoder guidance says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” So a file reaching its final frame should not end the broadcast if the source is set to loop and OBS continues sending content.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Start a private or unlisted test broadcast.
- Watch the Live Control Room preview and confirm the video returns to its beginning—or the playlist starts again—without the encoder feed stopping.
- Listen through the transition to check that audio repeats as intended.
- During the actual broadcast, monitor the stream’s audio, video, and health. For a planned end, follow YouTube’s guidance and stop the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube.
YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring the preview and stream. See Create a live stream with an encoder and End a live stream.
What happens to the YouTube stream and archive
The key distinction is between playback and transmission: looping makes the encoder’s video source repeat; YouTube’s broadcast continues while the encoder keeps sending its feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish the same archive behavior for streams longer than 12 hours, so do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived in the same way. See YouTube’s live stream archive information.

Common problems and fixes
- The video stops at the end. Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source. These are separate settings for a single file and a playlist.
- The stream ends when the file ends. Confirm OBS is still sending content and that the scene and source remain active. The loop belongs to the playback source; YouTube’s stream depends on the encoder feed.
- The image repeats but the audio does not sound right. Test the transition and confirm the source’s audio is included in the scene’s output before broadcasting.
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu. Install VLC, which OBS requires for that source, then check the menu again.
- You cannot tell whether the loop worked. Run a private or unlisted test and watch the Live Control Room preview through the file’s ending rather than checking only the local OBS preview.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays your uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
