To keep a prerecorded podcast playing in a YouTube live broadcast, make the playlist or media source repeat in the encoder or streaming service that sends the broadcast. YouTube’s playlist Loop control repeats playback for an individual viewer; it does not restart a creator’s live source when that source ends.
First, identify which playlist you mean
There are two different kinds of looping:
- A YouTube playlist watched on YouTube: Loop repeats videos for the viewer. Open a video in the playlist and use its Loop control. YouTube documents repeat controls on computers and mobile devices, as well as repeat controls for TVs and game consoles. YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists describe this viewer-side feature.
- A playlist feeding your live broadcast: The encoder or production system must keep sending video and audio to YouTube. Set that system to repeat the podcast media, move to another item, or show a holding slate. The repeat setting belongs to the tool supplying the live feed, not YouTube’s viewer playlist control.
YouTube supports encoder-based live streams using a stream URL and stream key, but its guidance does not provide playlist-loop steps for every third-party encoder. The exact control and setup depend on the software or hardware you use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the general feed workflow.
Set up a prerecorded podcast to continue live
- Choose a source that can continue after the current item ends. In your encoder or production system, configure the podcast playlist to repeat, arrange a next item, or add a holding slate. Check that the tool’s current documentation covers unattended playback and transitions; menus and controls differ between products.
- Prepare the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create or select the stream and copy its server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. YouTube describes the key as functioning like a password and address, so do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Start the encoder output and verify the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and that the picture and sound are present. Test the transition at the end of an item, not just playback at the beginning. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup and monitoring the stream. YouTube Live streaming tips cover testing and monitoring.
- Keep the source and encoder running. The repeat or next-item action only helps if the production system continues generating output and the encoder remains connected to YouTube. A viewer-side Loop setting cannot replace a stopped encoder feed.
Choose stream lifecycle settings deliberately
YouTube Studio offers stream lifecycle settings such as auto-start and auto-stop. These control aspects of starting and ending the live stream; do not treat them as media-loop settings. If you reuse stream settings, check whether that also reuses the stream key, and protect the key accordingly. The available labels may change, so confirm them in Studio’s current stream settings. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains these controls.
Plan for long broadcasts and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable, so do not promise viewers unlimited rewind on a continuous broadcast. If an archive matters, verify the resulting recording and plan the broadcast length around your archive and viewing needs. YouTube’s DVR guidance explains the limitation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Pick a setup that fits how you operate
- Software encoder: Suitable if your chosen software can repeat or transition the media and you can keep the computer, application, and network connection running for the broadcast.
- Standalone hardware encoder: YouTube supports hardware encoder workflows too. Confirm that the specific system can play and repeat your prerecorded media; an encoder’s ability to transmit a feed alone does not establish that it has playlist controls.
- Cloud service: Useful if you want the prerecorded media and stream output to continue without leaving a computer running at home. StreamNeo is first to consider for this use: it runs a YouTube stream from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your podcast recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops the uploaded media from the cloud, so nothing has to stay powered on at home. Your video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams and uploaded video playback, not camera-based live capture. Learn about StreamNeo, then start your free first day.
Troubleshoot a stream that stops at the playlist ending
- The broadcast ends when the video ends: The source is likely set to play once, or no next item is configured. Enable repeat or add a next item/holding slate in the encoder or production system.
- YouTube is live, but the picture or sound is missing: Check the encoder’s selected media source and output, then inspect YouTube’s preview and stream health. Test audio and video before relying on the broadcast.
- The encoder is sending, but YouTube is not receiving the stream: Confirm the server URL and stream key match the selected stream in Studio. If you reused stream settings, check that the key is the one currently configured. Keep the key private.
- The stream drops during unattended playback: Check whether the encoder, computer or hardware, and network remain active, and whether the production system offers reconnect or recovery behavior. Do not assume YouTube’s auto-start or auto-stop setting restarts media playback.
- Viewers cannot rewind the whole broadcast: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams over 12 hours. This is separate from whether the live feed itself continues.
Keep the podcast rights-clear
Before broadcasting or repeating a podcast, confirm that you have the rights needed for every audio and video element, including music, clips, artwork, and guest material. Replaying content does not change its rights status. YouTube’s encoder and looping instructions explain stream operation, not whether a particular recording is authorized for broadcast.
