YouTube reviews the channel as a whole, so reaching the numbers makes you eligible to apply but does not guarantee acceptance. This guide reflects YouTube’s rules checked on October 3, 2026; the higher ad-revenue entry thresholds are scheduled to change on February 1, 2027.
Which YPP threshold do you need?
YouTube has two distinct entry levels. The lower, expanded YPP route can unlock earlier access to certain features in eligible countries and regions; it is not the ad-revenue threshold. The higher route is the current entry threshold for eligibility to share ad and YouTube Premium revenue. Each feature can have additional requirements, and availability can vary by location.
| Route | Subscribers | Additional audience requirement | What it can unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP / earlier access | 500 | Three valid public uploads in the previous 90 days, plus either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. | Eligible fan-funding features and Shopping, subject to each feature’s own requirements and availability. |
| Ad-revenue eligibility | 1,000 | Either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. | Eligibility for ad-revenue sharing and YouTube Premium revenue, subject to terms and feature rules. |
These are YouTube eligibility thresholds as checked October 3, 2026, not a promise of acceptance or earnings. See YouTube’s YPP overview and expanded YPP details.
Watch hours and Shorts views are separate routes
Shorts Feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000-hour public-watch-hours route. Paid advertising campaign views and watch time do not count toward the thresholds; YouTube notes that qualifying follow-on organic views can count. Use the Earn page in Studio to check the channel’s progress and which route it is approaching.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Feature eligibility is not automatic
Meeting expanded YPP requirements does not itself turn on every fan-funding or Shopping feature, and it does not substitute for the higher ad-revenue threshold. Individual features can have their own age, location, content, and contract conditions. For example, YouTube lists age 18 or an adult guardian handling AdSense payments for ad revenue, and age 18 for some fan-funding features. Check the feature-specific requirements before relying on a particular earning option; YouTube summarizes them in How to earn money on YouTube.
Check these requirements before you apply
Audience numbers are only part of the application. YouTube’s standard overview says the channel must also meet these conditions:
- Be in a country or region where YPP is available. Expanded YPP and individual features have their own availability limits; the Earn tab is the practical place to confirm what applies to your channel’s location.
- Follow YouTube’s channel monetization policies and have no active Community Guidelines strikes.
- Have 2-Step Verification enabled on the Google Account and access to advanced features.
- Have one active AdSense for YouTube account linked, or be ready to create one through the YouTube Studio application flow.
Do not create a new AdSense for YouTube account outside that Studio flow. For current account prerequisites, consult YouTube’s eligibility overview.
How to apply in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube with the Google Account that owns or manages the channel.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn from the left menu.
- When Studio shows that the channel is eligible, select Apply Now.
- Review and accept the base terms.
- At the AdSense step, select Start to link an existing active AdSense for YouTube account or create one through Studio.
- Check the Get Reviewed step. If it shows In Progress, YouTube has received the application.
These are YouTube’s application steps in its official YPP overview. After acceptance, review and accept the monetization modules for the features you want to use; joining YPP is not the same as activating every earning feature.

Prepare for the channel review
YouTube says automated systems and human reviewers assess the channel as a whole. Reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, videos that account for the largest share of watch time, metadata such as titles and thumbnails, and the About section. The list is not exhaustive. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies and make the authorship and original value of the channel’s work clear throughout its catalogue.
Originality matters across the channel
YouTube’s stated policy expects monetized content to be the creator’s original work. Borrowed material needs significant transformation, while repetitive or mass-produced generic content may not qualify. A voiceover, edit, or compilation is not an automatic guarantee of eligibility: the relevant question is whether the finished work offers original value under YouTube’s policies. No preparation checklist can guarantee a pass, because the decision is made after YouTube reviews the channel.

Keep the application stable while it is pending
YouTube says decisions typically take about one month, although application volume, system issues, resource constraints, or additional reviewer checks can extend the wait. Monitor the status in Studio’s Earn area. If the channel falls below the threshold after meeting it and applying, YouTube says that alone does not stop review; changing video privacy or deleting videos may affect the application. Avoid making changes to public availability without understanding their possible effect. See the current application guidance.
What to do if YouTube rejects the application
Read the policy issue identified in the Earn area and address the underlying problem across the channel before trying again. YouTube’s current guidance gives these options:

As of October 3, 2026, YouTube has announced but not yet implemented a higher entry threshold for new applicants seeking ad and Premium revenue sharing: 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, beginning February 1, 2027. YouTube says creators already in YPP will not have their status affected by that entry-threshold change. The announcement says the expanded route for fan-funding and Shopping remains at 500 subscribers, three uploads, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views under the stated windows. Existing partners are asked to accept updated terms by January 31, 2027 to continue fully monetizing. These are announced future rules, not the current October 2026 ad-entry thresholds. Check YouTube’s YPP changes announcement and Studio for updates.

Or let it run in the cloud
Joining YPP requires applying through YouTube Studio; a 24/7 stream is not an eligibility requirement. If you separately want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that specific job, not a way to qualify for YPP or a substitute for original-content policies. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
