Amazon Prime members can read selected Kindle books through Prime Reading at no additional charge beyond their eligible membership. To get one, browse Amazon’s current Prime Reading catalog, confirm the book is still marked as included on its detail page, then follow the displayed borrow or read instructions. June 2026 has passed, and the available sources do not establish a particular book that was included in a June catalog.
How to get a Kindle book through Prime Reading
- Sign in to the Amazon account with the eligible Prime membership.
- Open Amazon’s Prime Reading catalog and browse or search the available selection.
- Open a book’s detail page and verify that it is marked as included with Prime Reading. Amazon describes the selection as rotating, so an older recommendation or June list may no longer be accurate. Amazon KDP’s description of Prime Reading also characterizes it as a rotating selection.
- Choose the borrow, read, or download option shown for that title and follow Amazon’s on-screen prompts.
- Read using the device or app offered in the title’s current flow. A Kindle e-reader is not necessarily required: Kindle reading is also available through apps on other device types, but follow the Prime Reading listing for that book’s supported options. Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited help page lists Kindle devices and Kindle apps on smartphones, computers, and tablets for Kindle Unlimited; it is not a guarantee that every Prime Reading title has identical availability.
What “free with Prime” means
Prime Reading provides access to eligible titles through a membership benefit; it is not the same as buying and permanently owning an e-book. Amazon’s Kindle Store Terms of Use, last updated June 30, 2026, tie access to subscription content to an active membership. A title can also leave the rotating catalog, so check its current status before planning to read it.
Prime Reading, Kindle Unlimited, and free book promotions
These are different routes to an e-book, with different eligibility and access rules.
| Option | What makes it available | Catalog and access | Device |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime Reading | Included for members with applicable Prime access. Amazon’s catalog | Rotating selection; access depends on membership and continued inclusion. Amazon KDP; Amazon terms | Use the device or app option shown for the title. A dedicated Kindle e-reader is not a general requirement. Amazon device guidance |
| Kindle Unlimited | A separate subscription; it is not automatically included with Prime. | Separate changing catalog. Amazon’s current help says members can borrow up to 20 titles at a time; this limit applies to Kindle Unlimited, not Prime Reading. Amazon, “Learn About Kindle Unlimited” | Amazon lists Kindle devices and Kindle apps on smartphones, computers, and tablets. Amazon |
| KDP Select Free Book Promotion | A publisher’s promotion for an eligible Kindle e-book; Prime membership is not what makes that particular book free. | Amazon KDP allows an enrolled title to be offered free for up to five days per 90-day KDP Select enrollment period. Promotions must be scheduled at least one day before their intended start. Amazon KDP, “Free Book Promotions” | Use the Kindle reading option offered for the title; the cited promotion rules do not state a separate device requirement. |
Can you get a free Kindle book “this June”?
“This June” needs a year and an Amazon marketplace to identify a specific catalog or promotion. As of October 8, 2026, June 2026 is over, and the available sources do not establish which individual books were included in a June catalog. The reliable way to find a book now is to check the live Prime Reading catalog and the book’s detail page rather than rely on an undated June list. Amazon’s general description supports the rotating-catalog point, but it does not document a particular past June title.

Before you choose a title
- Confirm the Prime Reading inclusion on the live detail page immediately before borrowing.
- Check the displayed reading or download instructions for the device you plan to use.
- Treat access as a membership benefit, not a permanent purchase.
- If a book is described as free without Prime Reading, check whether it is a publisher-run KDP Select promotion or another offer; do not assume Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading applies.
