If YouTube uploads are slow on BSNL broadband, first measure your upload speed—not just download speed—then compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, pause other network traffic, and repeat the test at a quieter time. Those checks can help locate the bottleneck, but none alone proves that BSNL is at fault. The same steps apply whether you searched “Why is my YouTube upload so slow on BSNL broadband?”, “How do I increase YouTube upload speed on BSNL FTTH?” or “My YouTube video upload is stuck—what should I check?”
First check: is the video transferring, or processing?
A YouTube upload can take minutes to hours depending on the file size, format, quality, available bandwidth, connection stability and upload traffic. Higher-quality video, including 4K, takes longer to transfer. Processing is a separate stage: if the file has finished uploading but YouTube is still preparing higher resolutions, waiting for processing is not evidence of a slow BSNL connection. YouTube outlines these factors in its slow or stuck upload help.
File size gives useful context: larger files take longer at the same sustained upload rate. Treat any time estimate as a rough sanity check, not a promise. A YouTube Community response from TeamYouTube in 2018 used 1 GB at 512 kbps uplink as an example that could take over four hours; that illustration is not a current guarantee or a universal upload-time calculator.
How to diagnose a slow YouTube upload on BSNL

Measure upload speed, not only download speed
Run an internet speed test and record the upload result, the time, and whether the device is connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Repeat it more than once. YouTube recommends checking connection speed for slow uploads and notes that inbound (download) bandwidth is often greater than outbound (upload) bandwidth. A plan’s advertised download rate does not establish its upload rate unless the exact plan states both.

A speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee that your path to YouTube will sustain the same rate for the entire transfer. It also cannot, by itself, identify which part of BSNL’s network is responsible. See YouTube’s guidance on upload bandwidth and system requirements.

Pause competing traffic and test one device
Temporarily pause cloud backups, file transfers and other video uploads. If practical, limit heavy internet use on other household devices during the comparison. Repeat the test at a quieter time. YouTube notes that upload traffic can spike at peak hours and that sharing a connection can limit the bandwidth available to an individual device. If results improve when traffic is paused or at a quieter hour, that narrows the possibilities; it does not identify a specific network fault.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If your computer and router or ONT have compatible Ethernet ports, connect them directly by cable and repeat the same speed check. YouTube’s system requirements guidance says a wired connection instead of wireless may help, but it does not guarantee faster video uploads just because you use a cable.
If Ethernet is noticeably faster or steadier, investigate Wi-Fi signal strength, distance, interference or the wireless device before considering new equipment. A compatible Ethernet cable is an optional diagnostic tool, not a cure. Do not replace the router, ONT or fibre equipment without evidence that it is defective or is the measured bottleneck.

Check the file and upload state
YouTube identifies file type and size as upload factors and recommends its supported formats. A smaller export can transfer sooner, but reducing file size may affect image quality; whether that trade-off is acceptable is your choice. No particular paid encoder or compression setting is required by the troubleshooting steps here. YouTube’s upload guidance covers factors that can make a video take longer.
If an upload is progressing, let it finish rather than cancelling it just because it appears slow. If you had to stop or lost the connection, YouTube says you can continue the previous upload for up to 24 hours by returning to youtube.com/upload and selecting the same file.

Verify the exact BSNL service and plan terms
Check your precise service type, plan, circle and any data threshold with BSNL. Do not infer upload throughput from a download headline or assume that terms shown for another city, reseller or older plan apply to your connection. A Government of India Digital Bharat Nidhi/BharatNet FTTH listing provides examples that state upload terms and thresholds separately; those examples are specific to that listing and are not proof of the terms for every BSNL plan.

Escalate persistent poor results with your test notes
If repeated tests remain poor across devices and over Ethernet, contact BSNL through its official technical complaint route or call broadband and landline support at 1800-4444. Share your service type and plan, time-stamped results, whether each test used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether results change by time of day. This information can make the symptoms clearer; BSNL’s support pages do not establish it as a mandatory complaint form.

What each comparison can—and cannot—tell you
