OBS network-dropped frames mean your computer is struggling to deliver the configured stream to YouTube’s ingest server. They do not, by themselves, prove Airtel is at fault. Start with a wired-connection test, pause other uploads, check sustained upload capacity, and then lower or adjust stream settings to fit what your connection can reliably carry.
First, confirm which kind of problem OBS is reporting
During a test stream, open OBS’s Stats window and note the network-dropped-frame count, bitrate behavior, and the time any drops occur. OBS describes dropped frames as a connection to the remote server that is unstable or unable to keep up with the configured bitrate. This is different from rendering or encoding lag, which points to a different part of the streaming pipeline.
These are OBS-to-YouTube delivery problems, not viewer playback buffering. A viewer’s connection can buffer even when OBS reports no network drops, and OBS can drop frames even if some viewers still see the stream. OBS says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” That makes the connection path a sensible place to investigate first, but it does not identify which part of that path is responsible. OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting
Run a controlled test before changing settings
- Use the same stream setup you intend to keep. Test with a private or unlisted YouTube stream and content with movement and audio comparable to the loop. Record the time of the test, OBS network-dropped-frame count, bitrate behavior, connection type, and any message shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Switch to Ethernet if you are on Wi-Fi. Connect the streaming computer directly to the router by Ethernet, then repeat the test under otherwise similar conditions. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. The cable is a diagnostic step; the available evidence does not establish a need for a particular cable category or a new router.
- Pause competing uploads. Temporarily stop cloud backups, file uploads, and other traffic that uses upload bandwidth. YouTube notes that shared use can reduce the bandwidth available to a stream. If the drops stop, repeat with competing traffic restored only if you need to verify how the connection behaves under normal household or workplace use. YouTube Help: Streaming tips
- Measure upload, not just download. Check outbound upload capacity and observe whether it remains adequate during a sustained stream and normal traffic. One brief speed test cannot show whether upload will remain stable for a continuous broadcast.
Choose a bitrate the connection can sustain
YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and says the stream’s total bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. If you send primary and backup feeds, include both when considering total upload demand. YouTube’s advice is: “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” YouTube Help: Streaming tips

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use measured, sustained upload capacity as a constraint, not a single peak result. If OBS drops frames at the current bitrate, lower the bitrate and test again. If that still does not produce a stable stream, reduce resolution or frame rate as needed. A lower bitrate or resolution can reduce picture detail, so compare stream health and the resulting video quality using the same test content.
Check OBS encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, CBR bitrate encoding, H.264 as a supported video codec, and a recommended keyframe interval of 2 seconds (not more than 4 seconds). Its H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Airtel connection can sustain those bitrates. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that both meet your needs and fit your observed upload headroom. Check YouTube’s current table because platform recommendations can change. In OBS, check the output encoder’s rate control, bitrate, keyframe interval, and codec against the values required for your chosen YouTube stream format. Confirm that the YouTube stream is receiving the intended resolution and frame rate. Watch Live Control Room’s stream health and read any displayed error; if YouTube reports an ingest or encoder issue, use that message alongside OBS statistics rather than treating every dropped-frame event as an Airtel fault. Test the ingest route and OBS network options
If a wired connection, paused competing uploads, and a suitable bitrate do not resolve the drops, test whether the issue changes with a different YouTube ingest server or endpoint if one is available in your setup. OBS recommends trying another server to help distinguish a server- or route-specific problem from other connection issues.

On Windows, OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests testing Network Optimizations and TCP pacing under Settings → Advanced → Network. Keep Bind to IP set to Default. You can test IPv4 Only as a diagnostic, but if it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting. Change one option at a time and repeat the same test so you can tell whether the change helped. OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can reduce drops by lowering bitrate during congestion, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can reduce video quality. Treat it as a trade-off, not proof that the line is fixed. OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting

Isolate local network equipment and software
OBS lists VPNs, security software, network “optimization” programs, outdated network drivers, Wi-Fi, and modem, router, or other network-device connectivity among possible causes. Test suspected software one change at a time. If a security product is responsible, add an OBS exception and re-enable protection rather than leaving it disabled. For drivers, use the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s source.
Where practical, simplify the wired path: test without an extender or switch, or connect the computer directly to the router. Replace a router, modem, cable, or other device only if a comparison isolates it as the failing component. Dropped frames alone are not evidence that new hardware is needed. When and how to contact Airtel
If the stream still drops frames on Ethernet, with competing uploads paused and a bitrate that fits observed capacity, save the OBS log and contact Airtel support. Ask them to investigate the line and route during the affected time. Include evidence rather than assuming the provider is responsible.
- Timestamp and duration of the test, including the time of each drop.
- Whether the computer was on Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and the network path used.
- Configured bitrate, resolution, and frame rate, plus observed bitrate behavior and upload results.
- OBS network settings, the selected ingest endpoint, and the OBS log.
- Any YouTube Live Control Room stream-health warning or error.
- Whether the issue changed on another ingest endpoint or another network, if you could test one.
No reviewed primary source establishes a specific Airtel outage, Airtel-specific OBS setting, or guaranteed provider-side fix for this symptom. Airtel conditions can vary by location and time, so a provider-side cause should be based on the line investigation and repeatable test evidence—not the dropped-frame counter alone.

- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream continues with your computer off.
- Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free first day.
