First find where the silence begins: in a source file, at a playlist transition, during FFmpeg input or encoding, on the network/output path, or at YouTube ingestion. Then use the evidence from the recording, FFmpeg’s timestamped logs, and YouTube Live’s stream-health messages to address that layer.
Tamil is the language of the music, not a special streaming setting. The relevant checks are the audio stream, codec, sample rate, channel count, bitrate, timestamps, and whether FFmpeg can keep sending data to YouTube.
Find the layer causing the silence
Before changing encoder settings, establish whether the audio is absent from the media itself or disappears later in the chain. A dropout at every song boundary points toward the assets or playlist assembly; a gap that appears in FFmpeg’s local output points toward input, decoding, mapping, or encoding; an output error or YouTube health warning points to a different layer.
- Listen to the source files. Play the affected files locally and listen across the exact point where the live stream went silent. If a source already contains a gap, replace or repair it. If silence occurs at song changes, inspect the playlist and confirm each file has the expected audio stream.
- Capture FFmpeg evidence. Save the complete command, the installed FFmpeg version/build, timestamped stderr, and the time of each dropout. Note input read failures, decode warnings, timestamp problems, output write errors, and whether the process restarted. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it helped.
- Check YouTube’s stream health. Read the messages in YouTube Live Control Room and, where relevant, the Live Streaming API’s health status. Warnings can identify unsupported audio codecs, sample-rate or channel issues, bitrate problems, multiple audio streams, or video ingestion starvation. A video-starvation warning is not proof that the audio source itself is faulty.
- Compare local and live output. If you can record or monitor the encoded output locally, check whether the silence is present there. Silence in that output narrows the problem to media handling or encoding; clean local output alongside a YouTube warning or live-only gap points toward output transport or ingestion.
Without the command, FFmpeg build, input type, logs, and dropout timing, the cause cannot be determined in advance. Avoid applying several unrelated changes at once.

Check the audio settings YouTube expects
For RTMP or RTMPS live streaming, YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its live encoder settings guidance, reviewed in 2026, recommends the following values:

YouTube’s Live Streaming API also describes checks for audio bitrate, codec, sample rate, channel count, multiple audio streams, and video starvation. The API lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended sample rates and checks one or two channels for the described audio health checks. Use the warning that matches your actual output rather than treating every health message as an audio fault.

Make sure FFmpeg is sending the intended audio track
A source can contain more than one audio stream, such as alternate mixes or language tracks. Check the input’s stream list and explicitly map the intended audio stream in your FFmpeg command when necessary. Then inspect the output to verify it contains that track, with the intended codec, sample rate, channel count, and bitrate. Do not blindly transcode: if the file itself has a gap or the output connection is failing, changing audio encoding will not repair the underlying cause.
Distinguish input retries from YouTube output recovery
FFmpeg’s HTTP protocol options can retry input reads after EOF, network errors, selected HTTP errors, and failures on streamed or non-seekable inputs. These options target input reads; they do not guarantee recovery if the RTMP/RTMPS output to YouTube fails.

For selected output failures, FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer can separate encoding from muxing in another thread and retry the output. Its queue policy matters: a full queue can block encoding, or the configuration can drop packets to keep encoding moving. Blocking may stall forward progress; dropping packets means content is missing. Neither behavior makes an unstable output path lossless.
FFmpeg’s online documentation is regenerated, so an option shown there may not exist in an older installed build. Check the documentation or help for your own version and test the recovery behavior before relying on it for an always-on stream. Observe both FFmpeg’s logs and what YouTube does after a reconnect.

Run a realistic preflight for a 24/7 stream
- Test representative Tamil tracks and transitions, not just a short tone or a single file. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and recommends monitoring stream health and messages during the event.
- Confirm that the intended audio track is present at transitions and that the output settings match the format you plan to stream.
- Check that upload capacity is suitable for the chosen video quality and remains reliable. A speed test measures capacity at that moment; it does not prove the connection will stay uninterrupted.
- For unattended operation, monitor FFmpeg process uptime, restart behavior, source availability, disk and log growth, and alerts. These are practical operational checks, not settings YouTube requires.
