How to Fix Buffering on an Indian Radio Station’s YouTube Livestream

Switch connections first, then check whether buffering follows one device, a shared network, or viewers on different networks. That pattern points to the next fix.

First, switch to another internet connection and replay the livestream. If it works there, the problem is likely with the original connection; if it still buffers on one device, troubleshoot that device. If viewers on different networks are all affected, the station should check its encoder and stream health. The station being in India does not change YouTube’s basic troubleshooting steps.

Find out who is affected

Buffering can come from the viewer’s device or connection, a shared local network, or the station’s broadcast. The pattern helps narrow it down, but does not prove the cause: viewer-side and station-side problems can overlap.

Who has the problem? What to check first
One viewer Test another connection and another device. YouTube says a problem affecting one viewer is likely related to that viewer’s computer or internet connection.
Several viewers on the same Wi-Fi or network Check the shared connection. It must support the combined bandwidth used by simultaneous streams.
Viewers on different networks The station should inspect its encoder, outbound connection, and YouTube Live Control Room stream-health reports. YouTube identifies encoder problems as a possible cause of widespread viewer trouble.

If possible, ask the station whether it sees an error or has received reports from other viewers. A single viewer’s report is not enough to establish that the station is at fault.

Fix a viewer-side buffering problem

  1. Switch connections and replay. If you are on mobile data, try Wi-Fi; if you are on Wi-Fi, try mobile data if available and suitable for your data plan. If playback improves on one connection, focus on the failing network.
  2. Lower playback quality. On a TV, open the player’s Settings > Quality control and select a lower quality if available. The control and menu names can vary by device.
  3. Clear the YouTube app cache on Android. The documented route is device Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > YouTube > Storage & cache > Clear cache. Menus vary by device and Android version. This clears the app cache, not your YouTube account.
  4. Restart and update the app or device. On a computer, close and reopen the browser, close excess tabs, check for browser updates, and restart the computer. On a TV, quit and reopen YouTube, restart the TV or streaming device, and check for system updates.
  5. Try another supported device. If the stream plays normally there, the issue may follow the original device. If multiple devices on the same network buffer, investigate that network too.
  6. For TV playback, check the local connection. Test connection speed near the TV, reduce other network use, and consider whether the TV’s location or obstructions affect its connection. YouTube recommends at least 7 Mbps for HD streaming on TV; that is a guideline, not a guarantee against buffering on every live stream or device.
  7. Report a persistent playback problem. Use YouTube’s Help and Feedback option in the app.

A wired connection can be a useful test if both your device and router support it. A Cat6 Ethernet cable is one option, but it is not a guaranteed fix and cannot resolve a problem with the station’s encoder or YouTube’s delivery.

What the radio station should check

If reports come from viewers on different internet connections, station staff should inspect the broadcast before asking every listener to troubleshoot individually.

  • Review viewer metrics and reported errors in YouTube Live Control Room.
  • Inspect the encoder output and look for encoder errors; check CPU load for signs the system is struggling.
  • If a local archive is available, review it for audio or video defects.
  • Update encoder software. If the encoded output appears healthy, test the station’s outbound internet connection and contact its provider if the test points to a connection fault.
  • Choose stream quality and upload bitrate the available connection can sustain. Test before going live and monitor stream health during the broadcast.

There is no evidence here identifying a particular Indian radio station, encoder, connection, or current outage. Widespread reports are a reason to investigate the station’s stream health, not proof of a specific fault.

Why lower latency can make buffering more likely

Latency is the delay between the broadcast and what a viewer sees or hears. YouTube warns: “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” A lower broadcast delay leaves less buffer to absorb interruptions in delivery, so playback can be more vulnerable to them.

For a radio broadcast where live chat interaction is not central, station staff can consider whether a less aggressive latency setting is preferable to minimizing delay. YouTube describes the default latency setting as best for minimizing interruptions in its TV guidance. The right choice depends on how much delay the station can tolerate and whether interaction needs to be near-real-time.
