First determine whether the audio is drifting in the YouTube stream itself or only in your local monitoring. Then compare the offset at the start and after a known interval: a steady offset and one that grows over time point to different troubleshooting paths. There is no universal sync setting that fixes every setup, so verify the signal path and audio configuration before changing it.
1. Confirm where the drift happens
Check the YouTube output separately from local monitoring
Listen to the live stream itself, or inspect its saved replay, and compare that with the audio you hear through your computer’s headphones or speakers. Monitoring can follow a different path from the signal sent to YouTube. An OBS community discussion describes monitor-device clock behavior as one possible explanation for monitor-only delay, but that is a troubleshooting hypothesis—not proof of the cause in your setup.
If the YouTube output remains synchronized while local monitoring falls behind, investigate the monitor route and playback device before changing the outgoing stream’s timing. If viewers and the replay also show drift, focus on the source, encoder, and stream output.
Measure whether the offset stays constant or grows
- Choose a recognizable audio/video event near the beginning of a representative stream segment. Note how far apart the event appears and sounds.
- After a known interval, check the same kind of event again using the same playback path. Record the interval and both offsets.
- Keep the original settings and any available logs before making changes, especially while a continuous stream is running.
A similar offset at both checks is a different symptom from an offset that increases. Do not assume that a fixed sync offset will correct an accumulating discrepancy; the available platform guidance does not establish one universal fix for either pattern.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Check audio configuration from source to YouTube
Review YouTube Live’s stream health or configuration information for reported audio issues. YouTube’s LiveStreams API documentation recommends 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz audio sample rates. Its configuration guidance also calls out supported audio codecs, channel-count constraints, and consistency between primary and backup streams.
- Compare the audio settings at the source or playback device with the encoder’s actual output settings.
- Check YouTube’s reported audio configuration and any stream-health warnings.
- If you use primary and backup streams, verify that their audio codec, sample rate, and channel count agree.
- Change a setting when you find a mismatch or a reported configuration problem; do not change every source to a different value without a reason.
These checks can reveal configuration problems, but the cited guidance does not identify a specific setting as a guaranteed cure for long-session audio drift.

3. Check dropped frames and connection health separately
If you use OBS, inspect its dropped-frame and connection indicators independently of the sync measurement. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Address a reported connection or bitrate problem using OBS’s network troubleshooting guidance, but do not treat dropped frames alone as proof that they caused the audio drift.
4. Do not mistake stream latency for accumulating drift
Latency is how long delivery takes; drift is a change in the relative timing of audio and video. YouTube Help explains that “HLS has higher latency because it sends segments of video, instead of a continuous stream like RTMP.” That describes delivery latency, not a fix for gradual audio/video desynchronization. Do not switch ingest protocols as a drift remedy unless you have evidence tying the symptom to the protocol or delivery path.

5. Troubleshoot in a controlled order
- Locate the affected output: compare the YouTube stream or replay with local monitoring.
- Characterize the change: record the offset at the start and after a known interval, using a consistent playback path.
- Review audio configuration: compare the source, encoder output, YouTube health information, and—if applicable—primary and backup stream settings.
- Review delivery health: check OBS connection and dropped-frame indicators without assuming they explain the sync symptom.
- Change one relevant setting at a time: preserve the previous configuration so you can identify whether the change helped or made the problem worse.
The available information does not identify your encoder, operating system, source playback method, devices, or whether the published stream is actually drifting. Without those details, a specific root cause or guaranteed correction cannot be established. A useful escalation report includes where the problem appears, the two measured offsets and interval, the source and encoder settings, relevant YouTube health warnings, and any OBS connection statistics.
