If the pastor’s lips move before the voice, first check the stream on a separate device and identify whether the mismatch stays constant or grows over time. Then compare a local recording with the outgoing stream. A fixed offset may be correctable in the existing encoder; progressive drift needs diagnosis of the specific devices and signal chain.
1. Check what viewers actually receive
Watch the audience-facing stream on a separate phone, tablet, or computer—not only the production preview. Note which arrives first: picture ahead means the mouth moves before the voice; audio ahead means you hear the voice before the corresponding mouth movement.
- Estimate the size of the mismatch.
- Note whether it is roughly constant from the beginning or gets worse as the service continues.
- Record whether the problem affects the whole mix or appears tied to one camera, microphone, or other input.
This gives you a baseline before changing settings. A church-stream troubleshooting guide recommends checking the stream from a separate device and noting the direction and approximate amount of the mismatch (WorshipMetrics Knowledge Base).
2. Determine whether it is a fixed offset or progressive drift
Roughly constant mismatch
If the difference remains about the same, test a fixed sync offset on the relevant audio source in the existing software or hardware. Focusrite’s OBS guidance says the adjustment may be needed in OBS Advanced Audio Properties, but the right value depends on the computer’s audio and video processing; find it experimentally rather than copying a number from another setup (Focusrite).

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Mismatch that grows over time
A fixed offset can shift audio relative to video, but it does not explain why the gap keeps changing. Check whether all inputs drift or only one source, and note when the change begins. Preserve a recording and the relevant OBS logs and configuration so the person diagnosing the system can examine the actual signal chain. The available official guidance does not establish a universal sample-rate setting, restart, or other one-step repair for progressive drift.
3. Compare a local recording with the stream
Make a local recording using the same production setup, then compare it with the audience-facing stream. This helps narrow down where the mismatch enters the chain.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Sync is wrong in both: inspect source configuration and consider whether a source or device is malfunctioning. Test an offset on the relevant source.
- Local recording is in sync, but the stream is not: investigate delivery conditions such as network or CPU load rather than changing multiple source settings at once.
Restream’s troubleshooting guidance recommends this local-recording comparison as a way to separate source-side problems from issues that appear in delivery (Restream).
4. Test a sync adjustment in OBS or a compatible switcher
OBS
- Identify the audio input that is actually included in the outgoing mix.
- Open that source’s available sync-offset control in OBS Advanced Audio Properties.
- Change only that setting, then make a short recording or private test stream.
- Check the result on a separate viewer device. If it is still off, adjust again and retest; do not assume a value that worked on another computer will work on yours.
- When the timing is right, note the working value and verify it again after a restart or configuration update.
Focusrite specifically describes applying a sync offset through OBS Advanced Audio Properties and cautions that the required adjustment depends on the system (Focusrite). Change one variable per test so you can tell what helped.

ATEM Mini-family switchers
If your church already uses a Blackmagic ATEM Mini or ATEM Mini Pro, check the relevant audio-delay controls in ATEM Software Control and confirm the procedure in the manual for your exact model. Controls can vary across models. A switcher is not a default purchase to fix sync: first establish where the fault occurs and whether existing software or hardware can correct it. The church-specific examples are in the WorshipMetrics troubleshooting guide.
5. Treat dropped frames as a separate clue
Dropped frames do not, by themselves, prove that audio and video timing is wrong. OBS says they indicate that the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate is higher than the connection can sustain. Its guidance is to investigate bitrate and network configuration (OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting).

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can reduce dropped frames when a connection cannot keep up, but OBS warns that it does not repair the underlying connection and may reduce video quality. Treat that as a delivery-quality trade-off, not as a guaranteed sync fix (OBS dynamic bitrate guidance).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Prepare a controlled test before the next service
- Before the service, check sound and internet, then make a local or private test recording long enough to see whether sync holds.
- Have someone monitor the delivery endpoint on a separate device while the production team checks the outgoing mix.
- If the problem returns, log when it starts, which sources are affected, whether it is fixed or worsening, and whether the local recording shares the problem.
Pre-event checks, live monitoring, and logging operational issues are also part of the process outlined in StreamingChurch.tv’s church live-streaming documentation.
