If your YouTube livestream ends when a rain video reaches its last frame, first check playback in the encoder: the video file needs to loop. In OBS, open the rain clip’s Media Source properties and enable Loop. YouTube’s auto-stop setting controls the broadcast lifecycle; it does not replay a finished file.
Why the stream stops at the end of the rain video
A local rain video is a playback source in software such as OBS. When that file reaches its end, the source may stop playing; unless it is set to repeat, the encoder can stop sending the expected video. YouTube’s stream key connects the encoder’s feed to YouTube, but it does not control whether the local file loops. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in its stream key help.
The fix depends on how the clip is added to OBS: use Loop for a single Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video playlist.
Loop one rain video in OBS
- In OBS, find the rain clip in the Sources list. If it is not already a Media Source, add one with Sources > + > Media Source, then select the local video file.
- Right-click the Media Source and choose Properties.
- Turn on Loop, then apply the change. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether the file plays again after playback completes; it is off by default. See OBS Media Sources.
- Watch the OBS preview through the end of the clip. Confirm the rain video starts again before relying on it for a livestream.
OBS Media Source supports local video files including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. A different encoder may label or implement its repeat setting differently, so check that software’s source or playlist controls rather than assuming the OBS steps apply.

Loop a playlist of rain videos
If you want several clips to play in sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding a separate single-file Media Source for each clip.
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS; OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source type to be available.
- In OBS, add a source with Sources > + > VLC Video, then add the files to its playlist.
- In the source properties, enable Loop Playlist if you want playback to return to the beginning after the playlist finishes.
- Observe the preview through the last playlist item to verify it cycles as intended.
OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default for VLC Video. That default is separate from the Media Source Loop setting, which is off by default.

If the OBS preview loops but YouTube still ends
When the preview repeats normally, the file loop is working. Check the encoder-to-YouTube connection and the broadcast status instead of changing the clip setting again.
- Confirm OBS is still streaming. If OBS has stopped sending, check its connection or whether the encoder has closed.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room stream health. Look for stream-health or configuration warnings while the broadcast is supposed to be live.
- Verify the selected stream key. YouTube uses the key to identify the encoder feed. If OBS is sending to a different or incorrect key, the expected broadcast may not receive that feed.
YouTube’s LiveBroadcasts API distinguishes broadcast behavior from incoming video: its enableAutoStop documentation says auto-stop stops a broadcast around one minute after the channel owner stops streaming video to the bound stream. Auto-stop is therefore not a file-repeat control. If a valid looping feed is still arriving, investigate stream delivery and health rather than treating auto-stop as the cause of a source that does not replay.
