The Terry Fox Foundation’s Canadian Run scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026 has passed. The Foundation lists Sunday, September 19, 2027 as the next Canadian Run. To find a Canadian event, register, or donate to a participant, team, or Run site, use the Foundation’s official Run pages; if you are outside Canada, use its separate international event finder. Check the selected listing before making plans because local details and event dates can change.

Choose the right way to take part

There are three practical decisions: where you want to participate, whether you want to register or simply support someone else, and whether your donation should go to a particular fundraiser or directly to the Foundation. The Canadian and international event finders serve different geographic purposes, while online donations can be directed to a participant, team, Run site, or the Foundation through its general-giving route.

Your goal Where to start What to expect
Attend a Canadian community Run Canadian Terry Fox Run page Search for a Canadian location, then check the selected listing for current local information.
Join a Run outside Canada International Runs finder Look for a registered event in your area; international events can happen at different times of year.
Participate where no nearby event is listed Use the Foundation’s guidance for a personal route in Canada or its virtual-run option for international participants. Choose a route and pace that are safe and comfortable for you.
Donate to a particular participant, team, or Run site Canadian Run FAQ and donation directions Search for the fundraiser or site in the Foundation’s donation tool, or follow the Donate button on a participant’s fundraising page.
Make a general gift Use the Foundation’s “Give Today” route from its official site. Review the form’s current terms, designation, and receipt information before submitting.

These routes solve different needs. If you want to attend an organized event, begin with the finder for your country and then verify the individual listing. If you want to participate without a convenient listed event, the Foundation describes personal participation in Canada and a virtual option internationally. If you are giving money, decide first whether you are supporting a named participant, team, or Run site, or making a general gift to the Foundation. That choice determines which page you should use.

Searching in the Canadian finder while outside Canada, or using a participant donation page when you intend to make a general gift, can lead you to the wrong route. The Foundation separates its Canadian and international listings, and its instructions describe fundraiser-linked donations separately from general giving. Use the location and support-method combination that matches your intention.

Find a Terry Fox Run in Canada

Search for a local site

Open the Foundation’s Canadian Terry Fox Run page and select its “Find a Run” option. Search by location to identify a site that is practical for you. The Foundation describes the Run as taking place in more than 650 communities in Canada; that figure appears on its undated participation page, accessed October 9, 2026, and is not a guarantee that every community has a current listing.

Once you have a possible location, open that site’s listing and verify its current date and local arrangements before travelling or inviting others. The Foundation’s published Canadian FAQ lists the next national Run date, but individual listings are the place to confirm the selected community’s details. Do not assume that a past listing or an old saved event page describes the next Run.

For the current date context, the 2026 Canadian Run was scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, and that date has passed as of October 13, 2026. The Foundation’s FAQ, accessed October 9, 2026, lists Sunday, September 19, 2027 as the next Canadian Run. Use those dates as orientation, then recheck the official finder for the chosen location as the event approaches. A national date does not by itself confirm the arrangements at a specific site.

When you search, think about which location is workable for you rather than assuming the nearest result will meet every need. The Foundation’s page describes the breadth of the event across more than 650 Canadian communities, but each listing is where to check the local information currently offered. The pages do not establish one universal start time, route, parking plan, facility list, or weather policy for all locations, so avoid relying on details from another site or an earlier year.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If there is no convenient organized Run

You do not need to abandon participation if the search does not show a suitable nearby event. The Foundation invites Canadians to take part on a personal route: in a neighbourhood, backyard, down the street, or around the block. Its participation guidance welcomes walking, riding, wheeling, or running at a safe and comfortable pace. Choose a route that suits the participant, and make any practical arrangements needed for the route you choose.

A personal route is different from attending a listed community site: it gives you flexibility about where and how to participate, but it is not a substitute for confirming any local event arrangements. If you want to fundraise, registration can still create a fundraising page; if you only want to make a gift, use the donation route that matches your intended recipient.

The Foundation’s examples make clear that participation need not require a long or formal route. A neighbourhood loop, a short distance down the street, or even a backyard route can be a way to take part. Choose walking, riding, wheeling, or running according to what is safe and comfortable for the person participating. The guidance does not prescribe a distance or pace, so do not treat a particular mileage, speed, or level of athletic ability as a condition of joining in.

If you would rather participate with others, a listed Run site may suit you better; if no site is convenient, a personal route is the alternative the Foundation describes. These are distinct choices rather than a requirement to attend an organized gathering. You can still register and use a fundraising page if you wish to invite donations, or simply make a donation through the relevant Foundation route.

Register as an individual or with a team

The Foundation’s Canadian FAQ describes registration as a sequence: choose a Run site, then register individually, join a team that already exists, or create a team. The process creates a fundraising page associated with your participation. You can use that page to invite support, while donors who prefer to find a fundraiser themselves can search through the Foundation’s donation tool.

  1. Choose your Run site. Use the “Find a Run” option on the Canadian Run page and select the location you intend to support or attend.
  2. Select how you will participate. In the registration process, choose individual registration, joining an existing team, or creating a new team, as appropriate.
  3. Complete the registration. The Foundation says registration is free and has no minimum fundraising requirement. It encourages registrants to fundraise or make a donation, but does not state a required minimum amount.
  4. Use the resulting fundraising page if you want to seek donations. Share that page with people who want to support your participation. Donors can also locate your fundraiser using the Foundation’s donation search.

The Foundation does not require a fundraising target to register. That distinction matters if you are deciding whether to participate: there is no entry fee or minimum donation amount specified for registration, even though fundraising and donating are encouraged.

In practical terms, you can choose among three registration arrangements: take part individually, join a team already set up, or create a team. If you have friends, colleagues, or family members who want to participate together, the team options let you select the arrangement that fits. The Foundation’s instructions do not require you to fundraise a set amount, and registration is free. A fundraising page is generated through the process; it gives people a way to support your participation, but the existence of the page does not create a minimum fundraising obligation.

If you are not certain whether to attend or register, separate the decisions. The site finder helps you identify where you might take part; registration is the step that sets up participation as an individual or team member and generates the page. A donor does not need to register as a participant to use the donation tool to support a participant, team, or Run site.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Likewise, if you are joining a team, make sure you select the existing team in the registration process rather than creating a separate team by mistake. If no team fits, the FAQ allows a registrant to create one. The Foundation’s public instructions support these pathways, but do not specify individual site deadlines or team-specific arrangements; check the current page associated with your chosen Run.

Donate to a participant, team, or Run site

If you want your contribution connected to someone’s participation, use the Foundation’s official Run donation tool and search for the participant, team, or Run site you intend to support. Alternatively, if the participant has shared a fundraising page, follow its Donate button. These routes are for donations associated with a particular fundraiser or site, rather than an unspecified general gift.

  1. Confirm the intended recipient. Check the person’s name, team, or Run site before paying. Similar names or multiple fundraising pages can make a search result easy to misidentify.
  2. Open the correct donation page. Use the Foundation’s donation search or the Donate button on the participant’s fundraising page.
  3. Review the form before submitting. Check the displayed recipient and the current payment and receipt details on the page.
  4. Keep the confirmation and receipt email. The Foundation says its online system sends a tax receipt as a PDF by email. Whether a donation qualifies for a tax credit depends on the donor’s circumstances and jurisdiction; the receipt statement should not be read as individualized tax advice.

If you donate to the wrong fundraising page or need a receipt correction, the Foundation FAQ directs donors to contact [email protected]. Include enough information for the Foundation to identify the transaction and the correction needed, without sending sensitive payment details by ordinary email.

The first decision is whether the person or group you intend to support has provided a fundraising page. If so, its Donate button is a direct route to that fundraiser. If you do not have a link, use the official donation tool and search by participant, team, or Run site. In either case, pause on the page to make sure the name or site corresponds to the person or event you had in mind; a donation attached to the wrong page may not reflect your intention.

The Foundation FAQ says its online system sends a tax receipt as a PDF by email. Keep that email in case you need to refer to it later. The statement describes the Foundation’s online receipt process; it does not say that every donor in every jurisdiction will qualify for a tax credit, nor does it replace advice on an individual tax situation. Review the form and receipt information shown when you donate.

If a donation went to the wrong fundraising page, or the receipt needs a correction, the Foundation FAQ names [email protected] as the contact. Contact the Foundation rather than making a second donation as a workaround. Provide information that helps identify the transaction and explain the correction requested, but do not send sensitive payment details through ordinary email.

Make a direct gift to the Foundation

If you want to support the Foundation without sponsoring a named participant, team, or Run site, use its “Give Today” route from the official Foundation site. This is the appropriate starting point for a general gift, rather than searching for a particular fundraiser. Before completing the form, read its current information about where the gift is directed, payment, and any receipt provided.

The Foundation’s Canadian Run FAQ explains the online receipt process for participant, team, and Run-site donations. It does not establish that direct gifts have identical designation, processing, or receipt terms. Do not assume that a general Foundation gift and a contribution to a participant’s page are interchangeable; rely on the details shown for the route you choose.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the general-giving route when your intention is to support the Foundation rather than a specific person’s fundraiser or a particular Run site. Conversely, if you want a participant to receive credit on their fundraising page, start with that page or search the Run donation tool for the participant, team, or site. Choosing the matching route helps ensure the gift is associated with the purpose you meant to support.

The Foundation’s “Give Today” page is the starting point, but the exact terms should be read on the form at the time you give. The FAQ’s emailed-PDF receipt description is specifically stated for online donations to participants, teams, and Run sites; it should not be generalized to a direct gift without checking the current direct-gift information. The same caution applies to designation and processing: the two options are not necessarily identical.

Find an international event or join virtually

If you are outside Canada, use the Foundation’s International Runs finder, not the Canadian location search. Search for a registered event in your area and verify the listing’s current details before travelling. The Foundation says international events can take place at any time of year, so their timing need not match the Canadian Run date.

If the finder does not show an event where you live, the Foundation offers a virtual Terry Fox Run route for individual participation. The international program welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. Follow the current virtual-run guidance on the international page for the route and participation information it provides; do not infer that a virtual participant is registered for a local in-person event.

For international events, the Foundation says funds raised at almost every event remain in the host country to support local cancer research. “Almost every” is important: the Foundation does not state this as an exception-free rule. Its international page also says that the Run supported cancer research in more than 25 research institutes worldwide “last year.” Because the page’s relative-year wording is not tied to a stated publication date, it should not be converted into a specific calendar year.

International events follow a different calendar from the Canadian Run: they can happen at any time of year. For that reason, do not use the September Canadian date to assume when an event in another country will take place. The international finder is the place to identify a registered local event, and its listing is the place to verify the current details before attending.

If there is no registered local event in the international finder, the Foundation provides a virtual-run option for people who live where no local Run is listed. The Foundation welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. The virtual option is an alternative for individual participation; it should not be confused with attending or being registered for a local in-person event. Check the Foundation’s current virtual-run instructions for the route and participation details it provides.

The international program also has a local funding dimension. The Foundation says funds raised at almost every international event remain in the country hosting that event to support local cancer research. That wording is deliberately qualified: it describes almost every event, not an absolute promise covering every event. The Foundation further reports support for cancer research in more than 25 research institutes worldwide “last year.” Since the page does not anchor “last year” to a publication date, that phrase should remain relative rather than being assigned a calendar year.

What to verify before you go or give

Event listings and donation forms answer different questions. Check the event page for the selected site’s current arrangements, and check the donation form for the recipient and the terms of the particular gift. The Foundation’s published information establishes the participation and registration routes described above, but does not provide a universal set of local details such as a start time, course, parking, facilities, or weather arrangements for every site.

  • For an in-person Canadian Run: confirm the selected site and current local details on its listing before setting out.
  • For a personal route: choose the neighbourhood or other route that is safe and comfortable for your participation mode.
  • For registration: decide whether you are registering alone, joining a team, or creating one, then complete the site-linked process.
  • For a fundraiser donation: check the participant, team, or Run-site name on the donation page before submitting.
  • For a general gift: read the current “Give Today” form’s terms rather than assuming they match participant-fundraiser donations.
  • For a receipt issue: contact the Foundation at [email protected] if the donation went to the wrong page or the receipt needs correction.

The most common avoidable errors follow from mixing up routes: looking only in the Canadian finder when you need international listings, assuming the next national date confirms a local site’s details, or choosing a general-gift form when you mean to support a participant’s page. Check the country, location, recipient, and purpose before completing an action.

There is no need to buy special gear to find a Run, register, participate, or donate; the Foundation does not specify a gear requirement for these steps. Its site does link to an official merchandise shop, but merchandise is only an optional secondary support route, not a requirement for participating or giving. If you are interested in merchandise, check the current shop’s products and terms directly.

At any listed site, rely on that site’s current information rather than assuming there is one standard arrangement across all locations. The Foundation’s general participation instructions cover the broad ways to join, while local details are tied to the selected event. For a personal route, choose what is safe and comfortable for you. For a donation, confirm the displayed recipient and read the form’s current information before submitting.

Sources and date context

Since the official pages do not provide publication dates for the listed event facts, check the Run finder again when planning for a later event.
