Separate MRP from the price viewers pay
For covered pre-packaged commodities in India, the Department of Consumer Affairs lists the retail sale price in the form of Maximum Retail Price (MRP), inclusive of all taxes, among required package declarations. MRP is not the same thing as the current promotional selling price.
If you show both amounts, label them plainly—for example, “MRP: ₹X” and “Offer price: ₹Y.” Use the actual current selling price, and do not imply a saving unless the comparison with MRP is accurate. This is a clear presentation recommendation, not a prescribed legal overlay format.
Make the offer understandable before purchase
Show the material terms
State any conditions that affect whether or how a viewer can get the advertised price, such as eligibility, offer duration, or purchase requirements. Put the terms where viewers can notice them before buying; do not rely on a small, remote disclaimer to fix a headline or spoken claim that could mislead.

Match the presentation to checkout
YouTube Help says the merchant determines and is responsible for the final price and conditions of purchase. Make sure the live graphic, host’s spoken offer, product information, and checkout terms agree. If the price or eligibility changes, update the presentation rather than leaving an outdated offer on screen.
Keep the product listing separate from the live graphic
Eligible merchants can connect a shop and tag products in YouTube live streams. YouTube says product information is displayed based on the countries of sale set in Google Merchant Center. Its guidance also places responsibility on merchants to disclose legally required consumer information and comply with applicable law.

A Lok Sabha answer dated 3 December 2025 describes Rule 6(10) as requiring ecommerce entities to display specified declarations, including MRP, on the digital or electronic network. That supports treating the applicable listing disclosure as a separate task: do not assume that a host saying the MRP or a video overlay automatically fulfils it. Confirm which listing surface and declarations apply to your sale.
A practical setup checklist
- Confirm the sale details. Identify the selling country, seller of record, checkout route, and whether the electronics item is a covered pre-packaged commodity. The title or the fact that a sale appears on YouTube does not settle those questions.
- Verify the amounts. Check the package declaration and the merchant’s current checkout price. If you display MRP and a lower offer price, label each amount distinctly and ensure the comparison is accurate.
- Write the conditions in plain language. Include material eligibility, duration, or purchase requirements alongside the offer in a form viewers can see or hear before they buy.
- Check every purchase surface. Compare the live graphic and spoken pitch with the tagged product information, applicable ecommerce listing, and checkout. Correct any mismatch before the promotion runs.
- Review the claim for misleading omissions. The Central Consumer Protection Authority’s 2022 misleading-advertisement guidelines address claims and omissions likely to mislead. Their disclaimer guidance says a disclaimer must not hide material information or attempt to correct a misleading claim.
What the rules do—and do not—settle
The Department of Consumer Affairs’ Legal Metrology guidance identifies MRP inclusive of all taxes among declarations for covered pre-packaged commodities. The cited parliamentary answer addresses ecommerce display of declarations. YouTube’s guidance assigns price, purchase-condition, and applicable-law responsibilities to the merchant. Together, these sources support clear, consistent price communication, but they do not establish a universal overlay design or prove that a live-video graphic alone satisfies an ecommerce listing duty.
