To give viewers separate daytime and nighttime collections, create two playlists in YouTube Studio. To change the music actually playing in one continuous live stream, use separate media sources or scenes in an encoder such as OBS and switch them at the transition; a YouTube playlist does not automatically change a live stream’s audio at a set time. If day and night are separate programs, schedule separate live events instead. For every track, make sure you have the rights needed to stream it.
First decide what “separate playlists” should do

YouTube Studio’s playlist tools manage collections, while Live Control Room and an encoder handle the live feed. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not document a playlist-driven, time-triggered audio change in a continuous stream. See YouTube’s playlist management guidance and live stream settings.
Create the daytime and nighttime playlists in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → New playlist.
- Create the first playlist with a clear title, such as “Indian Music — Daytime.” Add a description that tells viewers what the collection is for. Repeat for “Indian Music — Nighttime.” These are examples, not required titles.
- Choose the visibility that matches how you will share each collection: public for discovery and sharing, unlisted for access by link, or private for internal curation. Confirm the current Studio interface options before publishing.
- Add the videos that belong in each collection. Arrange them in the intended order; YouTube Studio supports drag-and-drop reordering.
- Keep each playlist’s description and visual identity distinct where available. If viewers should find both from the live broadcast, link to them in the stream description, a pinned comment, or your channel surfaces.
- Revisit the playlists to remove unavailable videos and maintain the intended sequence.
YouTube Help currently documents a 150-character title limit and a 5,000-character description limit for playlists, as well as a daily cap on public playlist creation across YouTube, YouTube Music, and the API. Availability can vary for supervised accounts. Check YouTube’s current playlist guidance for interface details.
Make one live stream change from daytime to nighttime music
For a single continuous stream, configure the media in the encoder. In OBS, make a Day scene and a Night scene, or use another arrangement that keeps the two sets of media separate. A VLC Video Source can hold a playlist of local media files; the source requires VLC to be installed. OBS documents loop and shuffle controls, so leave shuffle off for a fixed sequence and enable looping if you want the sequence to repeat. See OBS Media Sources.

- Install OBS and VLC, then open OBS and create a scene for the daytime set and one for the nighttime set.
- In each scene, add the appropriate media source. For a VLC Video Source, add the local files to its playlist and set loop or shuffle behavior for the desired rotation.
- Check that each scene plays the correct audio and any associated video. Do a private or otherwise suitable test before relying on the setup for a public broadcast.
- Configure an OBS scene-switching hotkey if you want to change scenes from the keyboard, or have an operator switch scenes at the transition. OBS supports hotkey scene switching; its documentation does not establish a built-in clock-based transition. See the OBS Studio overview.
- Connect OBS to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. YouTube’s live stream settings and encoder setup instructions cover the connection.
- At the day-to-night boundary, switch to the Night scene. The broadcast can remain continuous if the encoder stays connected; the scene switch changes the outgoing media, not the YouTube event’s playlist.
Schedule separate day and night broadcasts
Choose this approach when the two listening periods are distinct programs and should have separate watch pages, titles, descriptions, and start times. Schedule each stream in YouTube Live Control Room, then configure its encoder content for the relevant set. YouTube says scheduling lets you promote the stream, and viewers can find an upcoming event and opt for reminders. Scheduling creates an event; it does not automate a day-to-night audio change inside one continuous stream. See YouTube’s encoder live-stream instructions.

Check music rights before streaming
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the creator to have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services, including music licensing rights involving artists, labels, publishers (including public-performance licenses), and other royalty participants. The terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
A track being available on YouTube, included in a playlist, or stored locally does not by itself establish permission to include it in a live stream. The relevant licenses and permissions depend on the repertoire and territories involved. The cited platform terms do not determine which Indian licenses, collecting-society permissions, or direct clearances a particular channel needs; verify the rights for your catalog and intended territories before broadcasting.

Troubleshoot the common setup problems
- The live stream does not change when the playlist changes: YouTube playlists organize videos for viewers; they are not a documented live encoder control. Switch the active source or scene in OBS, or run a separate scheduled event for a distinct program.
- The VLC Video Source option is missing: Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS and check the source list. OBS documents that VLC must be installed for this source to appear.
- The wrong track plays after switching scenes: Check the media files and playlist in each scene, then preview both scenes before going live. Keep shuffle off if the order must be predictable.
- The stream does not connect to YouTube: Recheck the server URL and stream key in Live Control Room and the encoder. If you replaced or reset the key, update OBS with the current one; keep it private.
- Viewers cannot find a playlist or event: Check the playlist’s visibility and whether the link is present in the stream description, pinned comment, or channel surfaces. For a scheduled broadcast, confirm the event’s details and share its watch page.
- A music track triggers a rights issue: Pause or replace the affected content and resolve the rights question before continuing. Playlist access is not proof of live-use permission.
