To make a video loop seamlessly on YouTube Live, first edit its ending so it flows naturally into its beginning, then play it on repeat in OBS and send OBS’s output to YouTube. OBS can repeat a file, but its Loop setting does not remove a jump, flash, or audio break in the footage. Preview the join and test the broadcast before going live.
Make the video itself loop cleanly
The seam is the transition from the file’s last moment back to its first. Check both picture and sound at that point: a sudden change in framing, movement, brightness, or ambient sound can make each repeat noticeable. If the transition feels abrupt, revise the edit or choose footage whose ending leads naturally into its beginning. OBS repeats the file; it is not a tool for repairing the edit.
Check the join in a preview before broadcasting. Listen as well as watch, and inspect more than a single frame: a cut may be visually unobtrusive but still produce a click, silence, or abrupt change in the audio.
Choose how OBS will repeat your footage
| Playback method | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local video file | Select the file and enable Loop. OBS restarts playback when the file finishes; it does not make the file’s end-to-start edit seamless. |
| VLC Video source | A playlist of files | Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence. VLC must be installed, and its bitness must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among the video formats supported by Media Source. A playlist lets you sequence multiple clips, but the transition between each pair—and from the final clip back to the first—still needs to be intentional.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a single-file loop in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, choose the scene that will contain the video.
- Add a Media Source. In the Sources panel, select +, then Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- Choose the local video. In the source properties, browse to the file you prepared.
- Enable repeat playback. Turn on Loop, then apply the properties.
- Check the scene. Confirm the video is visible and framed as intended. Play through the end-to-start join and listen to it before connecting to YouTube.
Use a playlist instead
For a sequence of files, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Install VLC first, matching its 32- or 64-bit version to OBS. Check transitions between clips as well as the final-to-first transition; looping a playlist does not smooth those edits.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live and create or select a stream in Live Control Room.
- Connect the encoder. In OBS stream settings, select YouTube if it is offered. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room into OBS. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not share it publicly.
- Start the encoder. Start streaming in OBS and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Confirm the result before making the broadcast public. Check the image, framing, motion, audio, and loop join in the YouTube preview. Follow the controls shown in Live Control Room to start the public broadcast.
YouTube describes an encoder as software that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its setup guidance recommends RTMPS for the connection. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and OBS’s Media Source documentation.

Choose encoder settings and test the whole stream
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as a starting point, then choose settings your encoder and internet connection can sustain. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS video, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. It says not to exceed four seconds. Its suggested bitrates vary by resolution, so there is no single bitrate that suits every stream.
- Use the resolution and bitrate guidance for your intended stream quality in YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- Keep the keyframe interval within YouTube’s recommendation: two seconds is recommended; do not exceed four.
- Test with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast, not only a static screen.
- During the event, monitor stream health and review messages in Live Control Room. If the connection struggles, reduce quality settings to a level it can reliably sustain.
End the stream and know what happens to the archive
When the broadcast is finished, stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in Live Control Room as applicable. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive rule does not guarantee uninterrupted connectivity or confirm that a loop played correctly throughout the broadcast. See YouTube’s live stream setup and management guidance.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The video stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- The repeat has a visible jump or audio break: The source’s end and beginning do not join cleanly. Revise the footage or use a different source; the OBS loop option only restarts playback.
- The VLC playlist source is missing or unavailable: Check that VLC is installed and that its bitness matches OBS.
- YouTube does not show a preview: Confirm the stream URL and key in OBS match the stream selected in Live Control Room, then check that OBS is sending the stream.
- The picture or audio is wrong in preview: Check the OBS scene, source visibility, framing, and audio before starting the public broadcast.
- The stream health is poor: Review Live Control Room’s stream health and adjust encoder quality to fit the connection reliably. Do not assume one bitrate works for every resolution or network.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a prepared video or playlist to keep running on YouTube without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs it from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot—there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams only.
