You can run a 24/7 YouTube rain stream by sending a continuous audio-and-visual feed from an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. First verify that your channel is eligible, clear worldwide rights for every sound and image, and plan for outages and archiving: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be saved as a YouTube replay.
What you need before going live
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube supports encoder streaming; select it in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
- An encoder that can combine your rain audio with a visual scene and send the feed to YouTube. OBS is one software option, not a YouTube requirement. See OBS’s streaming guide and encoding guidance for its current setup information.
- Audio and visuals you own or are licensed to use worldwide on YouTube, plus a reliable computer, power source and internet connection for the encoder.
- A recording plan if you need a replay or backup. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive.
How to create the stream
1. Confirm YouTube Live access
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and choose encoder streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Configure the stream in the Live Control Room before connecting your encoder. Check YouTube’s current eligibility and encoder instructions.
2. Prepare rain audio and visuals with rights cleared
Use recordings, music, photographs, animation and other material only if you created them or have the rights needed for worldwide use in a YouTube live stream. Keep license records accessible. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can result in a placeholder image, interruption or termination. For licensed material, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains the enforcement risk.
Decide what viewers will see while the rain plays: for example, a rain-on-window scene, a landscape or an original documentary-style visual. A static or looping visual may be technically simple, but it does not by itself establish that the channel or stream will qualify for monetization.

3. Configure an encoder and connect it to YouTube
An encoder packages the audio and visual feed and sends it to YouTube. You can use a computer running software such as OBS or a hardware encoder. YouTube supports encoder streaming, and OBS publishes its own setup and encoding guidance, but the cited official information does not establish a specific computer, hardware configuration, output setting or encoder as best for nonstop operation. Follow the settings shown for your stream in YouTube Live Control Room and verify them against your encoder’s current documentation.
In OBS, add your rain audio and visual sources to a scene, configure the stream using the connection details provided in YouTube Studio, then check the preview before starting the broadcast. Keep the selected audio and video sources active for the whole session; test the feed and listen for gaps or clipping before treating it as a continuous stream.

4. Keep the encoder and connection running
A 24/7 title does not guarantee 24/7 availability. The encoder computer, its power supply, network equipment and internet connection all need to remain available, and someone should be able to check the feed and respond if it stops. A UPS may help during a brief power interruption, but it cannot cover a long outage or restore internet service. YouTube’s published requirements do not certify a particular computer or equipment setup for continuous operation.
5. Choose how to preserve a replay
Will YouTube save your 24/7 livestream? Not reliably as one complete archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. If a replay matters, record locally and consider ending and restarting scheduled sessions before they exceed 12 hours. That is a practical way to work around the stated limit, not a guarantee that every session will be archived. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Choose the setup that fits your priorities
Encoder: software on a computer or hardware
A computer running OBS gives you a software-based way to combine sources and send a feed; a hardware encoder is another possible approach. Compare the cost, sustained encoding capacity, power consumption and how easily you can monitor or restart the setup remotely. YouTube supports encoder streaming, but the cited guidance does not establish comparative performance for particular computers or hardware encoders.
Broadcast: one continuous stream or shorter sessions
One continuous broadcast is simpler to manage as a single live event, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube archive. Shorter sessions, paired with local recording, take more scheduling and file-management effort but better address the stated archive limit. Neither approach removes the need to monitor the encoder.

Content: your own recordings or licensed material
Self-created rain recordings and visuals give you more control over permissions. Licensed assets can also be used when the license covers the intended worldwide YouTube use, but they add documentation and possible Content ID allowlisting work. Either way, rights clearance remains necessary.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Copyright and monetization risks
Permission and Content ID are separate practical concerns
You need rights for all material in the live feed, and YouTube may still scan it for third-party matches. A license does not automatically prevent a match from interrupting the stream; where required, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel. YouTube describes live-stream copyright checks and interruptions. Providers are responsible for having rights to the content they stream. YouTube’s terms.

Monetization is not assured
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Monetized content should be original and authentic, rather than generic, mass-produced or repetitive. Reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement: having permission for an asset does not establish that a stream meets monetization requirements. Make the overall content materially distinctive, and do not assume that a static rain loop will qualify. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start encoder streaming: Check that the channel is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days; review the Live Control Room for the current access requirements.
- The stream shows a placeholder, stops or is terminated: A third-party-content match may be involved. Check YouTube’s live notifications, confirm that every asset is covered by your rights, and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting if you have a license.
- The computer is online but the channel is offline: Check that the encoder is still running, its audio and visual sources remain active, the network is available and the stream connection details in the encoder match those provided by YouTube.
- You cannot find a complete replay: Streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording for backup and consider shorter sessions if preserving YouTube archives matters.
- A licensed stream is not earning money: Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are different checks. Review whether the channel’s live content meets YouTube’s originality and authenticity expectations.
