To connect OBS to Facebook Live, create your scene in OBS, get the stream details through Facebook’s current live-video workflow, enter them in OBS, then use Facebook’s on-screen controls to preview and publish. The exact Facebook labels and technical limits can vary, so follow the workflow presented for your account rather than relying on an old click-by-click guide.
Prepare your OBS scene
Set up what viewers should see and hear before connecting the stream. In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow its prompts. It helps choose a starting configuration based on your intended use, computer resources, and network conditions; it is a starting point, not a guarantee that every setting will suit your connection.
Add the sources needed for your broadcast to a scene. Depending on your content, these may include a display or window capture, game capture on Windows, webcam, or capture card. A webcam is optional: you can stream a documentary discussion, presentation, or other scene without one.
- Check that the audio meters move when the intended microphone or desktop audio is active.
- Confirm the correct audio devices are selected and that the scene shows the sources you intend to broadcast.
- Preview the scene and listen for clipping, missing audio, or unwanted background sound.

Get Facebook’s stream details
Open Facebook’s live-video creation workflow and look for the option intended for streaming software or an external encoder. Meta has described computer broadcasts using streaming software or external hardware, but its announcement dates to March 22, 2017; its terminology should not be treated as a guide to today’s screen labels or eligibility rules. Use the current instructions shown in Facebook’s Live Producer or in the live workflow available to your account.
When Facebook presents destination details, identify the server URL and stream key if both are provided. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains a usable key may be able to send a signal to your broadcast destination. Do not post it in a public chat, recording, screenshot, or support request.

Enter the destination in OBS
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Choose a listed service if the current OBS build offers a working Facebook destination. If it does not, use the custom streaming server option and enter the server information Facebook supplies.
- Enter the stream key from Facebook. Avoid sharing or exposing it, and replace it through Facebook’s workflow if you believe it has been disclosed.
- Open Settings → Output and review the output configuration. Choose settings your computer and upload connection can sustain; do not assume one universal bitrate or resolution works for every setup.
- Apply the settings and check the OBS preview, audio meters, and selected scene again.
OBS documents the general service/custom-server and stream-key fields, but the exact Facebook preset availability and labels may differ by OBS build. See the OBS overview.
Test the signal and publish from Facebook
Start a brief test from OBS, then check Facebook’s current preview or publishing controls to confirm that the signal arrives, the intended scene appears, and audio is present. When the preview is correct, complete the publishing step shown in Facebook’s live workflow. The order and button labels are not established as universal; follow the controls currently shown in your account rather than expecting a particular “Go Live” sequence.

Choose settings that fit your setup
Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate should be selected for the content, computer, and upload connection. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard is a sensible starting point. Higher frame rates can demand more from the computer; OBS notes that 60 frames per second can be more demanding than 30. No Facebook-specific bitrate, resolution ceiling, keyframe interval, codec, or stream-key duration is established here, so do not copy a purported universal Facebook preset without confirming it in current platform guidance.
If the upload connection cannot reliably sustain the chosen bitrate, viewers may see interruptions or degraded playback. OBS sends the stream from your computer directly to the destination service; OBS is not an intermediary streaming server. See OBS dropped-frames troubleshooting.

Fix common connection problems
- Facebook does not receive a signal: Confirm that OBS is streaming, the correct service or custom server is selected, and the server details and key match the values currently displayed by Facebook. Check Facebook’s live workflow for any additional step required before the preview appears.
- The preview appears but has no sound: Check the OBS audio meters, selected input/output devices, and scene audio sources. Make a short test before publishing.
- Frames drop or the stream stutters: Check network stability and whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. Revisit OBS output settings and use the wizard as a starting point; reduce demanding settings if the computer or connection cannot maintain them.
- The scene is blank or shows the wrong content: Select the intended scene and verify its capture sources. Confirm that the window, display, webcam, or capture device is available to OBS.
- You cannot find a Facebook option or a familiar button: OBS builds and Facebook’s live interface can vary. Use the current Facebook streaming-software workflow and configure a custom server in OBS if Facebook supplies the needed destination fields but no suitable preset is available.
