Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To reduce OBS drops during a YouTube playlist stream, first check whether OBS is actually dropping frames. On Windows, enable Settings → Advanced → Network → Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing, keep Bind to IP on Default, and set a bitrate your connection can sustain. These settings can help diagnose or manage connection trouble, but they cannot guarantee a stable stream or fix an unreliable network.
First identify what is failing
Watch the dropped-frames counter at the bottom of the OBS Studio main window while the stream is running. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. A rising counter, especially alongside a yellow or red connection indicator, points to a broadcaster-side connection problem.
If the counter is not rising but viewers say the stream lags, buffers, or keeps loading, that is a different symptom. Viewer internet connections, devices, and locations can affect playback even when OBS is sending steadily. OBS makes this distinction in its Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide.
Configure OBS network options
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced → Network.
- On Windows, enable Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing. OBS says some users report improvement with drops or intermittent disconnections; the options also add diagnostic detail to the log. They are Windows-only and are not a universal fix.
- Leave Bind to IP set to Default.
- If you are testing IP Family → IPv4 Only, compare the result with your normal setting. If IPv4-only makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 selection.
- Use Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) only as a fallback if you cannot resolve the underlying connection issue. It lowers bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which can reduce dropped frames, but it also reduces picture quality and does not fix the cause.
OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, published September 30, 2024, describes network optimizations and TCP pacing as options to try—not a promise that a playlist stream will remain uninterrupted.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set a bitrate your upload can sustain
Base bitrate on dependable upload capacity, not the best number from a single speed test. OBS offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for video bitrate, while cautioning that the right value depends on stable upload and the streaming service’s limits. Treat 75% as a heuristic, not a guarantee or a current YouTube-specific encoder specification.
- If the OBS dropped-frames counter rises, reduce video bitrate and test again.
- Leave headroom for normal upload fluctuations and other devices or applications using the connection.
- Do not assume that a high speed-test result means the same upload rate will remain available throughout a long stream.
The sources here do not establish a current numeric YouTube bitrate or keyframe recommendation for this particular playlist stream. Check YouTube’s current live-stream guidance before setting numerical encoder targets; do not treat an old value as current.

Find causes outside OBS before replacing equipment
Network settings may help, but drops can originate in software, the local network, hardware, or the route to YouTube’s ingest server. Change one thing at a time and observe whether the dropped-frames counter changes.
Test the connection and route
- Try a different YouTube ingest server if the option is available in your setup.
- Temporarily test another streaming service as a diagnostic. If the issue changes, that may help isolate a service-specific route; switching services is not itself a fix for a poor ISP route or unstable connection.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi where practical. OBS notes that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A suitable Ethernet cable is a modest first check if your setup currently relies on wireless networking, but the OBS guidance does not establish a required cable brand or specification.
Check software, drivers, and network equipment
- Check whether a VPN, firewall, or security application is interfering. Test carefully, keep security protection enabled, and use an appropriate exception rather than leaving protection off.
- Look for network-prioritization utilities, including software such as Lenovo Vantage or Killer NIC software, which OBS lists as possible sources of interference.
- Update the computer’s network drivers from the computer or motherboard maker.
- Consider the modem, router, cables, network card, switches, and extenders as possible failure points. These are things to diagnose, not a reason to replace hardware pre-emptively.
If the checks do not resolve the issue, contact your ISP and discuss the connection or route before replacing equipment. OBS also recommends speaking with the ISP if you are unsure about hardware.

If OBS is steady but viewers still buffer
When OBS is not dropping frames, investigate playback rather than applying broadcaster-side network fixes blindly. Viewers may have slower connections, older devices, or different locations. OBS advises considering audience reach when choosing bitrate, resolution, and frame rate, and following the platform’s recommendations.
YouTube transcodes streams into multiple quality options for viewers. OBS’s Transcodes / Transcoding page notes that a consistent keyframe interval supports smoother transitions among those quality options. The sources cited here do not establish a current numeric YouTube keyframe interval, so verify the current platform guidance before entering a number.

Save a known-good setup for recurring streams
Once a configuration works reliably, save it as an OBS Profile so you can restore or reuse its output-related settings.
- Open Profile in OBS and choose New to create a profile for the YouTube playlist configuration.
- Give it a descriptive name, then confirm the working stream, video, and output settings are saved in that profile.
- If you also need to save the production layout, create or select a separate Scene Collection. OBS Profiles do not save scenes.
OBS’s Profiles guide explains that profiles can hold different platform or bitrate/resolution configurations, while scene layouts are managed separately.
