To combine multiple stream widgets into one theme, place them together in a single overlay in the StreamElements Overlay Editor, then add that overlay to OBS as one Browser source. You can start with a blank overlay or adapt a Super Theme. This keeps the widget layout together in the editor rather than requiring a separate OBS source for every widget.
What “one theme” means in this workflow
An overlay is a composition of visuals—such as alerts, labels, goals, and chat—that appears over your stream. In StreamElements, you arrange those widgets in the Overlay Editor; broadcast software renders the finished overlay through a browser source. StreamElements describes overlays as visuals composed in its editor and rendered in broadcast software via a single browser source (StreamElements Documentation: Overlays).
A single composed overlay is different from placing several separate overlay URLs into one OBS scene. The first gives you one browser source for the combined composition. The second leaves the overlays independently managed and stacked as multiple sources in the scene.
Build one overlay with multiple widgets
- Create or choose an overlay. In StreamElements, open the Overlays area and create a new overlay. Alternatively, choose a Super Theme in the Themes Gallery as a starting point; its overlays and widgets can be edited. See StreamElements’ Super Theme and AlertBox setup guide.
- Set the canvas dimensions. Match the overlay resolution to your stream canvas so positions and sizing correspond when you add it to OBS. A smaller overlay can be intentional, but you may need to reposition it in your broadcast software.
- Add the widgets you need. In the Overlay Editor, use the widget picker. StreamElements’ getting-started guide demonstrates adding an AlertBox and Custom Widget; its documentation also covers visuals such as alerts, labels, goals, and chat (Getting Started with Overlays).
- Arrange and customize the composition. Position and style the widgets together in the editor, then save. You can select and group widgets; the documented shortcuts include Shift+D to duplicate and Shift+G to group (Overlay Editor Shortcuts).
- Check for duplicate alerts. If you copied elements from separate theme overlays, inspect the AlertBoxes. Hide or remove duplicates if they are not intended: duplicate alert widgets may produce the same alert audio more than once.
- Copy the overlay URL. Get the URL from the editor or overlay manager after saving. Keep it available for the OBS setup below.
Add the combined overlay to OBS
- In OBS, select the scene where you want the overlay.
- In the Sources panel, choose +, then Browser. Create a new Browser source or select an existing one if appropriate.
- Paste the StreamElements overlay URL into the Browser source properties.
- Set the Browser source width and height to suit the target canvas or layout, then confirm the properties.
- Check the scene preview. If the overlay is misplaced or scaled incorrectly, adjust the source dimensions or return to the Overlay Editor to correct the canvas and widget layout.

When to keep overlays as separate sources
If you need to manage different overlay URLs independently, add each one as its own Browser source in the OBS scene and position the sources there. This is a valid alternative to composing all widgets inside one editor overlay, but it means arranging and maintaining multiple sources. For a single combined composition, put the widgets in one StreamElements overlay and load that URL as one Browser source.

Combining widgets into an OBS overlay is for arranging visuals in a broadcast scene.
