To investigate a YouTube stream that stopped while using Castr, open Stream Session History in the Castr dashboard, select the relevant date range, choose Show Details, then inspect Bitrate or Analytics. Castr documents historical stream-health charts—not a raw event-log viewer—so the charts can help locate a problem but do not, by themselves, establish why YouTube ended the broadcast.
Find the ended session and its health charts
- In the Castr dashboard, open Stream Session History.
- Select a date range that includes the interruption, then click Show Details to open the past session.
- Open Bitrate or Analytics to view the stream-health charts.
- Use Show Metrics Between to narrow the charts to the time around the interruption.
- Review video bitrate, audio bitrate, and frame rate, looking for changes that began near the time the stream stopped.
Castr says health data is retained for 10 days. If the session is older, its data will no longer be available in this health-chart view. Castr Help Center
What the charts can—and cannot—tell you
A sudden video-bitrate drop can point to a connection problem, while dropped frames can indicate encoder or connection strain. These are diagnostic clues, not proof of what caused YouTube to end a broadcast. The charts include video bitrate, audio bitrate, and frame rate; Castr’s published guidance does not establish that they reveal YouTube’s exact termination reason or map a particular chart pattern to that reason.
Compare three things: whether the incoming feed to Castr changed, what the charts show at the interruption time, and whether the encoder, network, Castr destination settings, or YouTube Live Control Room shows a corresponding issue. If the charts do not explain the stop, compare the relevant time window with the status and messages in YouTube Live Control Room. For additional help, send Castr support the session time and relevant screenshots.

Castr’s March 2026 troubleshooting article recommends H.264 video, AAC audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval. It suggests 3,500–6,500 Kbps video for 1080p, 2,500–4,000 Kbps for 720p, and 128 Kbps stereo audio. These are Castr’s recommendations, not universal guarantees; check that the settings match your chosen resolution and the requirements shown for your YouTube stream. Castr’s stream-disconnection troubleshooting guide
Check upload capacity and connection stability
Castr recommends available upload speed of at least 1.5 times the stream bitrate. By its example, a 5,000 Kbps stream calls for at least 7,500 Kbps (7.5 Mbps) upload. Its guide also recommends wired Ethernet because Wi-Fi can introduce packet loss and latency spikes. Ethernet may help stabilize the route, but it is not a guaranteed fix; compare the connection’s behavior with the chart timeline.

Check the YouTube destination and run a test
Verify the destination setup
Check the stream URL and key in YouTube Live Control Room, and confirm that any destination-side action required to go live has been completed. Castr’s YouTube troubleshooting article describes deleting and reconnecting the YouTube destination and generating a fresh key if the existing one does not work. Because that connection guidance was published in 2022, dashboard labels may have changed; use the current controls in Castr and YouTube. Castr’s YouTube troubleshooting article
Test the incoming feed
Castr recommends testing with a private or unlisted YouTube stream and watching the incoming feed under Analytics > Input Health. This helps you check whether the feed reaching Castr appears healthy; it does not, on its own, identify YouTube’s exact reason for ending a broadcast. Castr’s test-stream guidance was also published in 2022, so confirm the current interface labels. Castr’s test-stream guide
