To change a YouTube gaming VOD’s category after it has been uploaded, open it in YouTube Studio, set Category to Gaming, select the correct game if prompted, and save. Archived livestreams are listed under the Live tab in Content.
Change the category on one gaming VOD
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Content. Find the video by title or thumbnail. If it is a livestream archive, use the Live tab.
- Open the video’s details/settings page and find Category.
- Select Gaming. If YouTube presents a game selector, choose the game that matches the VOD.
- Select Save.
YouTube Help’s gaming guidance says to select the Gaming category and choose the right game when a gaming video appears on the wrong topic channel. Studio labels can change, so the wording or position of controls may vary.
Change the category on multiple VODs
For several videos, use Content’s bulk editor:
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and check the videos you want to edit.
- Choose Edit, then Category.
- Set the category and select Update videos.
Bulk editing is useful when multiple archives share the same category. Review the selected videos before applying the update so you do not change unrelated uploads.
What changing the category does—and does not do
Category and selected game are metadata that help YouTube identify and group gaming content. YouTube describes gaming game pages as discovery and grouping surfaces, but changing the category does not guarantee recommendations or placement on a particular game page. If a VOD is associated with the wrong gaming topic, also check that its title, description, category, and selected game accurately describe it.

If the livestream replay is missing
Look in YouTube Studio → Content → Live for archived streams. If the stream is not there, its duration may matter: YouTube says a livestream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive-capture limitation, not a restriction on editing the category of an existing VOD.
