Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePrepare and proofread the Jèrriais text first, then add it either in your video platform’s subtitle editor or as a timed subtitle file such as WebVTT. If you are using YouTube, Studio offers upload and manual-entry options, but do not assume its automatic speech-recognition or auto-sync tools support Jèrriais: those features depend on the platform’s supported recognition languages.
Choose how you will add the subtitles
The right workflow depends on where the video will appear, whether you already have accurate timings, and whether you want a subtitle file you can reuse elsewhere.
| Workflow | Useful when | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio editor | You are adding subtitles to a video hosted on YouTube and want to work in the platform. | YouTube offers manual entry, file upload, and auto-sync options. Auto-sync depends on speech-recognition language support and a transcript in the same language as the audio. Whether Jèrriais is currently available as a named language in Studio is not established. |
| Timed subtitle file, such as WebVTT | You want to prepare subtitles outside the video platform or keep a file that may be reusable. | The file contains text segments and timing information. When translating an existing timed file, preserve its time intervals and the WebVTT header. |
If a reliable transcript and timings already exist, adapting a timed file can reduce repeated work. If you are working directly on a single YouTube video, Studio’s manual-entry or upload route may be more convenient. Choose auto-sync only if the audio language is supported and the transcript matches the spoken language.
Prepare and check the Jèrriais text
Subtitle accuracy begins with the language, not the upload screen. Work from a checked Jèrriais transcript if the video is spoken in Jèrriais, or a carefully reviewed translation if you are translating from another language. Do not treat machine recognition or an unchecked draft as a finished subtitle track.

Use language-specific guidance
The Office du Jèrriais provides learning resources and a route to request translation guidance. It also identifies the Académie du Jèrriais as an advisory body for usage, definitions, and language questions. For independent study, the Office lists Lé Jèrriais Pour Tous, a grammar book available from the Société Jersiaise Bookshop; check with the relevant organization for current availability.
When wording, spelling, or usage is uncertain, seek language guidance before timing the final text. This is especially useful for documentary material where names, specialist terms, or the intended meaning of a speaker’s sentence may not be obvious from a literal translation.

Preserve accents and inspect their display
Keep Jèrriais diacritics intact when you type, copy, or export subtitle text. The 2026 reference grammar explains that accents commonly indicate pronunciation and that the circumflex marks long vowels. These marks are part of the language’s spelling conventions, not decoration. Check that they remain present in the subtitle file and render correctly in the final player.
Make a WebVTT subtitle file
A timed subtitle file pairs each text segment with the interval when it should appear. YouTube describes subtitle and caption files as containing both the words and timestamps for display. W3C’s translated-subtitle guidance uses WebVTT and instructs contributors to retain the WEBVTT header and leave the existing time intervals unchanged while translating text.

- Start with a timed file if one exists. Copy the original WebVTT file so you preserve its segment structure and timing information.
- Keep the header and intervals. Retain the
WEBVTTheader and do not alter the time intervals when the task is to translate the existing subtitles. - Replace only the subtitle wording. Translate each segment into checked Jèrriais, retaining the intended meaning rather than translating mechanically word for word.
- Preserve Jèrriais characters. Check accents and circumflexes after saving or exporting the file.
- Review the finished track with the video. Watch from beginning to end with subtitles enabled and check that each line appears at the appropriate moment and that the text is readable and accurate.
W3C’s instructions also describe metadata and pull-request steps for contributions to W3C WAI video resources. Those steps are specific to that project; they are not general requirements for every WebVTT subtitle file or video platform.
Add the track in YouTube Studio
YouTube’s documented workflow lets a creator add a language track for a video and then upload a subtitle file, enter subtitles manually, or use auto-sync when the language and audio qualify. The exact language menu available to a creator can change, and the available evidence does not establish whether Jèrriais can currently be selected there by name.

- Open YouTube Studio and select the video. Go to the video’s Subtitles tools.
- Add a language track. Select the appropriate language if it is available in the language list. Confirm the choice before entering or uploading text.
- Choose a subtitle method. Upload a timed subtitle file, enter subtitles manually, or use auto-sync only if YouTube supports speech recognition for the audio language and your transcript matches what is spoken.
- Save or publish the track using Studio’s controls. Then open the video as a viewer and check the subtitles in the player.
If Jèrriais is not listed as a selectable language, do not label the track as another language simply to make the upload proceed. Use a platform-supported route only if it represents the subtitles accurately, or check the platform’s current guidance for available language-track options. A platform’s ability to display uploaded text does not by itself establish that it can recognize Jèrriais speech automatically.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When auto-sync is—and is not—a reasonable choice
Auto-sync is not a shortcut around language support. YouTube’s instructions make it conditional: the transcript must be in a language supported by its speech-recognition system and must match the language spoken in the video. The current supported-language list is not established here, so do not assume Jèrriais qualifies.

- Consider auto-sync only when YouTube’s current language options and instructions confirm that the spoken language is supported and the transcript accurately reflects the audio.
- Use manual timing or an existing timed file when you cannot confirm recognition support, when the video mixes languages, or when accurate timing is important and you already have timings.
- Do not use a transcript in a different language as an auto-sync input for Jèrriais speech; YouTube’s guidance requires the transcript language to match the spoken language.
Review the subtitles in the video
A saved track still needs an editorial check in context. Play the full video with the subtitle track enabled, rather than checking only isolated lines. Confirm that the timing follows the speech and that line breaks do not obscure meaning or make the text difficult to read.
- Compare the displayed text with the audio or the approved translation.
- Check names, technical terms, spelling, accents, and circumflexes.
- Look for lines that appear too early, disappear too soon, or are difficult to follow at the pace of the video.
- Confirm that the selected track can be enabled in the final player and that its text displays as intended.
These are review recommendations, not a claim that a particular video or subtitle file has been tested. The final playback check is important because an accurate text file can still contain timing or display problems in context.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Jèrriais auto-recognition is available: verify current speech-recognition language support before relying on auto-sync.
- Using a transcript that does not match the audio language: auto-sync requires a transcript in the spoken language.
- Dropping diacritics during editing: preserve Jèrriais characters and inspect them in the player.
- Changing existing timings while translating: when adapting a timed WebVTT file, keep its intervals unchanged unless you are intentionally correcting timing.
- Skipping full-video playback: review timing, line breaks, language, and display with the track enabled.
- Assuming a language-menu choice is confirmed: whether Jèrriais currently appears as a named option in YouTube Studio is not established.
